¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Bang Na hosted a vibrant and educational event called ¡°Around the World in a Day.¡± The primary building was transformed into a global adventure, where each class represented a different country. Students and teachers worked together to create unique stations that allowed other classes to explore diverse cultures, traditions, and cuisines. Kindergarten 3B introduced Korea, while Kindergarten 3A showcased Japan. Grade 1 presented Myanmar, Grade 2 shared the colorful culture of Mexico, Grade 3 brought Turkey to life, and Grade 4 delved into Egypt¡¯s rich history. Meanwhile, Grade 5 immersed students in the world of Madagascar. Each station not only featured fun facts and cultural displays but also offered a chance to taste food from these countries or play some games, creating an interactive and flavorful experience for all.
In the Early Years building, the excitement continued with regional-themed activities. The classrooms were divided into different regions of the world, each offering hands-on activities that allowed the younger students to explore the world in a fun and educational way. The Arctic station, filled with sensory play using ice, captivated the children, while the Pacific Islands station invited them to make their own flower necklaces. For a taste of the Wild West, students enjoyed a scavenger hunt and sensory play with sand. In the Arabian Deserts area, children practiced writing Arabic words, and in the Jungle station, they got creative by making their own animal masks. These engaging stations helped the little ones connect with diverse regions through play and learning.
To conclude the day¡¯s global journey, a special performance brought the celebration to life. Each class had a chance to perform something representative of the countries they explored, from songs to dances. Nursery delighted with a Texas Hold¡¯em Kidz Bop performance, while K1 and K2 shared the heartfelt ¡°Everyone Deserves a Home.¡± The older students continued the tradition with a mix of songs and speeches, including Grade 3¡¯s ¡°A Million Dreams¡± and Grade 4 & 5¡¯s speeches about their experience being students at an international school. Though the performances were brief, they perfectly showcased the international spirit of the day, making ¡°Around the World in a Day¡± a memorable event at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Bang Na.

¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Bang Na celebrated Teacher¡¯s Day in Thailand on January 16th. This event gave us a chance for students to express their love and respect for their teachers.? We also taught the students how to participate in the traditional Wai Kru ceremony. In Thai culture, lowering one¡¯s posture is an expression of humility and respect. The students of our school knelt before their teachers and offered them gifts and flowers. They thanked their teachers for the knowledge they have given them, for the gift of learning, and also wished them good luck as they continue to teach and make an impact on the lives of students. Our students developed a greater appreciation for their teachers. They understand that teachers have great significance, not only in their life, but in society and their future, too.

Grade 2 Takes Action

To take action in our inquiry cycle, students in grade 2 were asked to do something to make their community a better place. Students proposed different projects. Then we all voted on the one we thought would help the community the most. A whole school deep clean inspired by schools in China and Japan was a clear winner. This event ended up being a big hit in the Wells Bang Na community!

On Sept. 29 teachers and students got together with cleaning supplies. Then, we worked as teams to clean all parts of the school. We cleaned the playground, gym equipment, the library, hallways, classrooms and other public spaces! Students expressed they had so much fun cleaning and taking responsibility?for their?space. Afterwards, we all joined together to have popsicles and reflect on what we learned from this event. Grade 2 did a great job taking charge and leading this event while including all in our community. It was a fun time for all, our school is super clean and organized now and students are already asking when the next clean up day will be!

In order to enhance our online learning, Bangna Grade 3 and 4 students created videos and photo slideshows. This was an action to share? their inquiry based learning at home. Our students are excited to share these videos through the Wells Bangna YouTube Channel.?

Although Covid-19 challenged students and teachers in many ways; our classes openly discussed strategies to support the development of communication and presentation skills. Our students chose to teach each other how to prepare a healthy and balanced meal in their first remote learning videos project. When these presentations were completed, we watched them together with the students. Then we discussed and critiqued the presentation techniques. The students were excited to share their work in this way. So they voted to keep producing videos as a component of their class work.?

A Healthy?Recipe

Our current unit for these classes is ¡°Who We Are¡±. It? focuses on health, growth and responsibilities. Online learning encouraged our students to become more independent. The situation of studying at home requires self-discipline and maturity. In some ways this unit has been enhanced by social distancing measures. Our students have been especially reflective about this experience. They are able to see the true value of physical fitness and nutrition. They are taking steps to make fitness a part of their daily schedule, without adult pressure.?

The teachers Ms. Viki and Mr. Jordan wanted students to be active in their approach to learning. We designed activities in which students could personalize their learning. Then demonstrate their learning in a fun way. One activity involved students researching a healthy meal. Then they cooked it with a parent.Students chose their own meal and ingredients. Then they demonstrated why it was a healthy choice. In another activity, students designed their own 7-day fitness plan. After that, they will design their own fitness magazine.?

Sam Makes a Sandwich

Learning is not always pencil, paper, and books. Sometimes it involves students getting their hands dirty, using deeper thinking, and challenging themselves to do new things. We encouraged our students to practice the learner profiles during this difficult time for all of us as we continue distant learning. We could not be more proud of the students, thankful for the parents, and continued support from the school administration.?

Last Tuesday, February 25th, the K1 classes came together to celebrate Thai winter activities. The parents from K1 prepared boat racing and kite flying activities. Due to the AQI, we were unable to have the activities outside as initially planned. However, that didn¡¯t stop the students from enjoying the celebration!

Winter8

Winter7

?During this unit of inquiry, ¡°Where We Are In Place and Time¡± we have discussed celebrations. We looked at the form and function of celebrations. The K1 students have been challenged to explore questions like: Why do we have celebrations? What happens at celebrations?? What are some of the similarities we have noticed between celebrations?

Winter6

Winter5

At the Thai winter celebrations event we explored boat racing by simulating our own boat races. The students were divided into 2 teams and raced against each other in the inflated rafts provided by the parents. The event took place in the kindergarten dance room. Therefore, the boats were powered by teachers and parents. As the students soared across the dance room floor in the rafts they got to experience the excitement of the annual boat races. The parents discussed what the boats were made of and how the team must row together. We engaged in an exciting chanting session to help the team row together.?

Winter4

Winter3

We also celebrated the winter season with some indoor kite flying. This was a great way to reinforce their knowledge of the letter ¡®k¡¯; which they are currently learning through the jolly phonics programs. We also learned about the traditional Chula and Pakpoa kites. We flew the traditional Thai Pakpao, snake kites. The students raced from one end of the dance room to the other, with the kites flying above them. There was lots of cheering and celebrating! Then the kids were able to explore the seasonal fun that the winds provide in Thailand. We discussed how the celebration of kite flying can happen throughout the winter season as long as the winds are present.?

Winter2

Winter1

To end off the winter celebration we played a traditional Thai game. The students were excited to participate. We will continue our inquiry into Thai celebrations with hot and rainy season celebrations. Thank you to all our parents for their support in making the Winter seasonal celebrations an exciting success!

Parent PYP Workshop at Wells Bang Na

On Wednesday, October 2nd, Wells Bang Na campus hosted a parent workshop introducing the IB PYP to new parents. The central idea of the workshop;?the function of education is to provide students the skills they need in a changing world. ?Our parents learned about the six trans disciplinary?themes of the IB program, the key concepts, the learner profile, and approaches to learning.? They gained insight about inquiry-based education in the Wells primary program. The new members of our community?were able to connect as well.?The participants reflected on what education looked like in the past and the present. In addition to this, they predicted what it will be like in the future. Our parents were risk-takers stepping out of their comfort zone during this workshop. They were also thinkers, inquirers and communicators. Thanks for your participation!
