Honesty Matters: Best Practices for Wells International Middle School Students

The middle school students at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Chonburi arrived at school early on the Saturday morning of January 22nd. Our middle school teachers held a one-day workshop on academic integrity, and most of our students attended. The aim was to foster honesty and ethical behavior in the students’ research and academic writing.Ìý

Paraphrasing Instead of PlagiarismÌý

The workshop was divided into various components, including plagiarism, citations and referencing, time management, and digital citizenship, and the students were eager to get started. Firstly, our students discussed our school’s academic integrity policy and unpacked what it focused on. The students analyzed the forms of plagiarism and what the consequences are. Then, they learned about and practiced how to paraphrase.Ìý

Academic integrity

Finding ReferencesÌý

After a break, the students delved into citations and referencing research. These techniques are valuable for future research and academic writing. Our middle school students are now better equipped to write quality papers. They are more prepared for their path to university.Ìý

Academic integrity

Digital Citizenship and Social MediaÌý

Lastly, our students spent their last hour solving scenarios about digital citizenship. Our students learned about keeping their information safe and private, being kind online and on social media, and how to protect themselves from the dangers of social media.Ìý

Academic integrity

By instilling the principles of academic integrity, we are laying the foundation for a future generation of leaders. These students will approach challenges with integrity, contribute ethically to society, and serve as role models for others. Initiatives like these contribute to a brighter and more principled future. We aim to foster academic integrity into our school culture to build principled and responsible citizens at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ – Chonburi.Ìý

Parent PYP Workshop at Wells Bang Na

On Wednesday, October 2nd, Wells Bang Na campus hosted a parent workshop introducing the IB PYP to new parents. The central idea of the workshop;Ìýthe function of education is to provide students the skills they need in a changing world. ÌýOur parents learned about the six trans disciplinaryÌýthemes of the IB program, the key concepts, the learner profile, and approaches to learning.Ìý They gained insight about inquiry-based education in the Wells primary program. The new members of our communityÌýwere able to connect as well.ÌýThe participants reflected on what education looked like in the past and the present. In addition to this, they predicted what it will be like in the future. Our parents were risk-takers stepping out of their comfort zone during this workshop. They were also thinkers, inquirers and communicators. Thanks for your participation!

Parenting Styles Workshop | Wells Thong Lo Campus

On Friday 8th March, Wells Thong Lo hosted a ‘Parenting Styles’ workshop, welcoming parents of children across all ages; from nursery students, that are filled with wonder about the world around them through to high school students, where the parents are challenged with the task of ensuring that curiosity and wonder remains as their child makes life changing decisions about their future. No matter what age the child is, parenting is an art that develops with time and experience, changing form with each individual child.

Parenting Workshop, Wells Thong Lo

Ms. Camarin, Wells Early years and Primary School counselor, discussed the challenges faced in 21st century parenting and the different parenting styles that are adopted; authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, orÌýneglectful. Authoritative has been highlighted in many studies as the most effective style; whereby effort is put into creating and maintainingÌýa positive relationship with the child, reasoning is given for rules that are enforced with given consequences, whilst simultaneously taking the child’s feelings into consideration. Although this style is favoured, every child and every familial background is different and should be factored in, potentially changing the dynamic and what action or style is most suitable. At times, good parents cross multiple styles, adapting to their child and situation.

Parenting Workshop, Wells Thong Lo

Through open discussion, Wells leadership, teachers and Ms. Camarin discussedÌý problems faced today by parents and teachers alike. There is a direct relationship between home and school, where parents and teachers are working towards the same or similar goals, with the child’s welfare and development at the heart of decision making. We recognize, address and appreciate the challenges faced by parents and are here to support and guide where we can. We value our students, families and aim to continuously build a stronger community.

Thanks to all that attended and your valued input, and to Ms. Camarin and co for your tips and insight. Watch this space for more exciting workshops coming soon. We welcome input from our parents about future workshops. Please email any thoughts or ideas over to gona@wells-school.com.
