Grade 4 and 5 Students Unite for Survival Camp
Grade 4 and 5 students from ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½â€™s Chonburi and Bang Na campuses came together for their first-ever survival camp. Hosted at the Chonburi campus, the event aimed to teach students essential survival skills and then reinforce those skills by applying them to later activities. The camp challenged students to learn how to use available resources to build shelters, cook, and more, all while having fun.

Hands-On Activities and Teamwork
The day was filled with hands-on activities where students learned by doing. They practiced addressing injuries through role-playing scenarios and tied knots to build shelters using rope, bamboo, and tarps. They worked in teams to read different types of maps to solve problems, using this skill in a whole-campus scavenger hunt to find a missing word. When students were working on these activities, they took the lead in solving problems together, with teachers acting as facilitators. The camp also ended with an exciting lesson on building fires and cooking their own food. Students had so much fun throughout the day as they tackled new challenges. Ìý

Building Skills and Leadership
We were thrilled to see the students collaborate and support one another throughout the camp. They displayed impressive leadership, engineering, and survival skills while fostering teamwork and communication. The camp was a great opportunity for students to apply what they had just learned, reinforcing their skills through real-world activities. This memorable experience highlighted their ability to problem-solve, lead, and work together as a team, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts.

A Burst of Fun-filled Learning Adventures

Our fun day started with seeing elephants up close, an unreal experience. Then, we rode on a pretty carriage pulled by horses and took a calm ride around the park. Next, we planted rice in an actual rice field. It was muddy but so much fun! After that, we went on a boat ride through a pond full of colorful lotus flowers. The breeze felt nice. It was the perfect end to our exciting day! Overall, each activity provided essential insights into Thai culture’s beauty, traditions, and values, creating a deeper appreciation and understanding for each student.

Tasty Treats

Everyone learned how to make khanom krok, a tasty Thai dessert made from oil, milk, and corn. Then, we customized and created our own som tum, a traditional Thai papaya salad. We worked together in groups, adding ingredients and mixing them. Afterward, we all tasted the khanom krok and som tum we made, which was delicious. Finally, at lunch, we watched dancers in pretty Thai clothes from different regions of Thailand. It was a day we will always remember!

At the aquarium, the Wells students observed various marine life and learned about ocean ecosystems, conservation efforts, and the interdependence of organisms, fulfilling standards related to Earth and life sciences. After gaining insights into marine biology, we proceeded to the beach to explore firsthand coastal environments, apply scientific concepts, and engage in hands-on activities. This helped the students meet their objectives for investigating Earth’s systems and processes.

At the beach, the students didn’t just soak up the sun but also engaged in active exploration and problem-solving. Armed with pencils and curiosity, they conducted a survey as a hands-on application to identify environmental issues. To the students’ dismay, the survey unveiled concerning problems plaguing the coastal ecosystem. They observed a bloom, an overgrowth of algae fueled by excess nutrients, suffocating marine life and marring the beach’s natural beauty. Additionally, the Wells students’ investigation revealed a distressing abundance of plastic waste littering the shoreline, posing threats to marine organisms and ecosystems.

These findings ignited a sense of urgency within the group. The Wells students are inspired to take action, so they brainstormed solutions and discussed the importance of environmental stewardship. The Wells students will be join other groups to tackle the problem together.Ìý

Overall, the field trip was eventful and informative for the students. Hands-on activities such as these present real-life examples that are relevant to our students’ daily lives. Equipped with new knowledge and understanding, the Wells Chonburi students are preparing to implement ways to curb pollution that damages our shorelines.

Honesty Matters: Best Practices for Wells International Middle School Students

The middle school students at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Chonburi arrived at school early on the Saturday morning of January 22nd. Our middle school teachers held a one-day workshop on academic integrity, and most of our students attended. The aim was to foster honesty and ethical behavior in the students’ research and academic writing.Ìý

Paraphrasing Instead of PlagiarismÌý

The workshop was divided into various components, including plagiarism, citations and referencing, time management, and digital citizenship, and the students were eager to get started. Firstly, our students discussed our school’s academic integrity policy and unpacked what it focused on. The students analyzed the forms of plagiarism and what the consequences are. Then, they learned about and practiced how to paraphrase.Ìý

Academic integrity

Finding ReferencesÌý

After a break, the students delved into citations and referencing research. These techniques are valuable for future research and academic writing. Our middle school students are now better equipped to write quality papers. They are more prepared for their path to university.Ìý

Academic integrity

Digital Citizenship and Social MediaÌý

Lastly, our students spent their last hour solving scenarios about digital citizenship. Our students learned about keeping their information safe and private, being kind online and on social media, and how to protect themselves from the dangers of social media.Ìý

Academic integrity

ConclusionÌý

By instilling the principles of academic integrity, we are laying the foundation for a future generation of leaders. These students will approach challenges with integrity, contribute ethically to society, and serve as role models for others. Initiatives like these contribute to a brighter and more principled future. We aim to foster academic integrity into our school culture to build principled and responsible citizens at ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ – Chonburi.Ìý

Our Seahawk volleyball teams have once again showcased remarkable skill and team spirit at the prestigious 2023 FOBISIA Varsity Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Shrewsbury International School this past weekend. This marks the second consecutive year of Wells’ participation in this 3-day event.

The Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) tournament brought together teams from across the region.

**Seahawk Boys: A Dominating Force**

Wells’ boys’ volleyball team, known for its prowess, continued its winning streak. They remained undefeated in pool play, overpowering teams from Bangkok Prep, Rugby School Thailand, Epsom College, and Shrewsbury Team B. The knockout phase saw them triumph over Wellington College Shanghai and Potisarn Pittayakorn in the semifinals. The championship match against Bangkok Prep was arguably the best-played match of the season, with Wells clinching the gold medal, winning 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-14).

The boys’ team featured a blend of experience and emerging talent. Ending their storied careers as Seahawks were seniors Sena Nakamura, Asahi Fukuura, Bijay Pun, Japan Kittayachaiyawat, Kenshin Ushikubo, and Haruto Kagei. They were supported by juniors Rafael Jung and Rishi Sharma.

**Lady Seahawks: An Emerging Powerhouse**

The girls’ team, significantly improving since their 6th place finish at the ISB tournament, mirrored the boys’ success in pool play, securing victories against Shrewsbury Team B, Potisarn Pittayakorn, and Bangkok Prep. They continued their winning form in the playoffs, overcoming Shrewsbury Team A and International School Myanmar in the semifinals. The championship game saw them put up a fierce fight against St. Andrew’s Bangkok, eventually earning a respectable second place.

The girls’ roster showcased a diverse mix of players, including senior Bianca Castillo; juniors Ally Gu, Jimin An, and Preme Mongkolprasert; sophomores Alia Abdelwahab, An Fukuura, Alisa Kupari, Hayeon Kim, Yebin Sung; and freshmen Aom Vetchayanvivat, Hrishika Bhattacharya, and Amy Park.

Friday, September 29th marked an eventful and exciting day for the middle school students of ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Chonburi and On Nut. The middle school students from the Wells International Chonburi campus visited the middle school students at the On Nut campus to collaborate on a Science project.Ìý

Middle School

The Chonburi students left early on Friday morning to arrive in time to meet many of the club representatives at the On Nut campus. The representatives talked about their clubs, how they started the clubs and how they support their community. This inspired both the students and teachers to take action in Chonburi and get more involved in the community.Ìý

Middle School

After the presentations, the students joined the other middle school students in Ms. Ro’s Math class. Following the Pre-algebra class, the students had the opportunity to meet the middle school council and engage in some icebreaker activities. The purpose of these activities was to get the students to know each other a bit better and to start building cross-campus connections for future events and endeavors.Ìý

Then it was time for the highlight of the day. Under the guidance of Mr. Richie, the students jumped into a biosphere project. The students worked together to create a biosphere. The students worked collaboratively to set up their biospheres, to make the biosphere completely self-sustaining. They had to follow instructions and discuss different options of how the biosphere would work.Ìý

Middle School

Middle School

Allowing students to participate in cross-campus activities allows them to share ideas and learn from each other. The students are challenged to think critically as they troubleshoot issues that arise within the biosphere. They learn to analyze data, make observations, and make informed decisions to maintain a balanced ecosystem. Also, cross-campus collaboration ensures a system-wide quality of learning as teachers work together to plan and implement lessons. Our language learners find new ways to use English when working with new friends.Ìý

The purpose of a day like this goes beyond making a biosphere. It provides a rich educational experience that promotes scientific understanding, environmental consciousness, teamwork, and a sense of community, while also nurturing skills and values that students can carry with them into the future.

Overall, our students made new connections and friends while building their confidence and independence as young adults. They learned new skills and found new ideas to implement at their individual campuses.
