Songkran Splash at Wells Bang Na

Every year, Wells Bang Na celebrates Songkran, but this year was especially exciting! For the first time in many years, our students, parents and teachers were looking forward to a big water fight on the playground. This was not possible during the pandemic, but this year our students were eager anticipating a huge splash party with water guns and balloons.��

To open the celebrations, the teachers and students paraded down the street together led by teacher drummers. Performances by our students showed their appreciation for Thai music and culture. Seeing the students enjoy the music and dancing was the best aspect of the show. Wells Bang Na student’s are becoming confident performers and one of our Grade 3 students decided to MC parts of the show.��

One of the highlights this year was the tug-o-war game played between parents and students. The parents usually win, but this year, to everyone’s surprise, the teachers had the upper hand. Since the students were cheering so passionately for their parents, we had to reward the Mom’s and Dad’s who played with a special treat. They were awarded the privilege of throwing the first buckets of water and their victims were our teachers and school leaders!

The Songkran festival at Wells Bang Na gives everyone an opportunity to experience the beauty of Thai culture with our family and friends. On behalf of our community, we wish you a wonderful Songkran holiday!��

The International Festival – Wells BangNa

Wells Bang Na’s learners are global citizens who represent an array of cultures and nations. On February 24th, our campus held the International Festival 2023. This event marked the very first international day celebration since the global pandemic, which really brought families and teachers together in planning a fantastic event! This event was an excellent way to promote cultural awareness and understanding, as well as to build a sense of community among students.

The day began with a flag parade. Everyone gathered at the early years building and paraded down the lane. It was wonderful to see everyone waving their flags proudly. Next, our students and parents showed off their traditional styles during our catwalk of nations. There were cheers of excitement from the audience, showing strong support for each other.

Everyone was amazed at the beautiful performances put on by our students and parents. The early years students were energetic yet composed drummers and dancers. The older students performed John Lennon’s inspiring song “Imagine”. The Indian community shared various dances from different parts of their country. The Thai teacher’s assistants choreographed their own dance, too!

The country booths featured fun games, activities and crafts that helped everyone learn more about the nations represented in our school community. Lebanon, Myanmar, Russia, South Africa, Thailand, Japan, India, France, and The Philippines were set up as destinations for the students to visit.��

Lastly, the food festival provided yummy treats and a festive atmosphere for everyone to connect. Overall, the International Festival was a fantastic way to promote cultural understanding, celebrate diversity, and build a sense of community within the school.

Loy Krathong 2022

This year, Loy Krathong was another special day at Wells On Nut Campus. After not being able to celebrate it for the past 3 years, the whole school community was looking forward to this event.��

We launched the event the week before Loy Krathong. Students from middle and high school were invited to show their creativity in the making of krathongs. They collaborated and made incredible krathongs from environmentally friendly products like fruits and vegetables.��

As for the primary students, they used fish food to independently make their krathongs. They were super proud of their masterpieces!��

On November 8th, The Thai Department, in collaboration with the whole school, hosted an International day and Loy Krathong event to commemorate Thai Culture and celebrate the diversity of our internationally minded Wells community. Staff and students were invited to dress in traditional costumes.

��Primary students demonstrated how to make krathongs and the alternative resources that could be used for it. The middle and high school students performed a number on Loy Krathong with the high school students playing Thai traditional instruments and the middle school students dancing to it.�� The event concluded with the whole school dancing to the Thai Rum Wong song.

Loy Krathong 2021

Loy Krathong is a significant ancient Thai tradition. The origin of this tradition derives from a ceremony which connects with water, representing an essential factor in life, as well as the culture of Thai people and one aspect of beauty in Thai culture. �ۿ۴�ý Thai Department aimed to embrace Thai culture and celebrate this tradition by organizing Loy Krathong activities in a “new normal” way as follows:

Primary school students made ‘krathong’ with their teachers during a Zoom meeting.

��Middle school students shared their ideas, information, and knowledge by creating activities related to the Loy Krathong tradition.

High school students participated in Loy Krathong virtually through various websites.

In organizing Loy Krathong activities hosted by the Thai department in �ۿ۴�ý, students in all levels were able to actively engage and collaborate on these projects. This is another activity which can help students develop a better understanding of Thai culture, and one way to preserve its traditions.

Songkran Ceremony 2021

On March 31, 2021, the Thai department organized a Songkran ceremony at Wells On Nut Campus.��The main activity was the Thai tradition of offering water from students to teachers, known as the Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony. In this tradition, young people, in this case our students, pour water over the hands of their revered elders and ask for a blessing.

In honor of this respected tradition and the Thai New Year, many students and teachers also wore Thai traditional outfits or typical Songkran flower shirts. The event was an enjoyable one to bring in the new year and start everyone on their Songkran break.

On behalf of �ۿ۴�ý, the Thai department wishes everyone in the school community a happy and safe Songkran this year!

Loy Krathong 2020

Loy Krathong has been a valuable tradition in Thailand for a long time. It reflects the importance and role of the river in the Thai way of life throughout history. �ۿ۴�ý organized activities to celebrate the Loy Krathong tradition by allowing students in each level to make several forms of Krathong as follows:

Primary school students made Krathong from colored paper.
Middle school students made Krathong from natural materials and organized a Krathong beauty contest.
High school students made eco-friendly Krathong from natural materials and participated in the Krathong beauty contest.

As part of Loy Krathong activities this year, �ۿ۴�ý has made it a priority to protect the environment in the rivers and canals by encouraging all students to make environmentally friendly Krathong which are made from natural materials.

Father’s Day 2019

December 5th has become a special day here in Thailand. Not only is it the official date of Father’s Day in Thailand, but it was the date of the anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama IX. He was born in 1927 and died on October 13, 2016. He was the father of the nation and a symbol of fatherhood.

On December 4th, before��the holiday, our school had a ceremony to��celebrate fathers and let the students show love and respect their fathers. The students prepared gifts for their fathers in Thai culture classes. During the ceremony, the Grade 11 IB Thai class presented a creative dramatic performance they created, titled “The Love of a Father”.��

Grade 5 sang a song titled “KraiNhor” and Pam in Grade 11 performed a musical piece. Grade 1 sang a song “I love my daddy”. A student representative from Grade 11, Paint, gave a speech about fathers and then student representatives presented special gifts to their fathers.

Finally, a�� father representative gave a heartwarming speech about the joys of being a father. It was a beautiful ceremony to celebrate this important figure in everyone’s life.

Loy Krathong Festival 2018

Loy Krathong is an ancient Thai tradition, which takes place on the evening of the 12th month (usually in November).

To maintain this precious tradition, our school organized a Loy Krathong activity on��November 22, 2018. There were performances from students. They performed a Thai dance “Rabum Sukhothai”, playing Thai instruments and making a Krathong competition. All students wore traditional Thai dress and enjoyed the fun Loy Krathong activities.
