Students from every grade level took center stage during the festivities, enchanting attendees with mesmerizing performances that highlighted the arts, culture, and traditions of Southern Thailand. The Rum Glong Yaow Parade and Roeng Songkran were among the highlights, offering glimpses into the beliefs and customs of the Southern Thai people, who consider Songkran a time for auspicious rituals to usher in good luck for the coming year.

A particularly captivating part of the celebration was the Nang Talung, a shadow puppet show rich in symbolism and cultural importance, reflecting the essence of Southern Thai heritage. Attendees also enjoyed traditional Thai folk dances pulsating with lively music and accompanied by unique instruments such as bagpipes, immersing them further in the festive atmosphere.

Amidst the joyous performances, the Wells community paid homage to the sacred traditions associated with Songkran, including the revered Rod Num Dum Hua ceremony. This solemn ritual involved pouring water and seeking blessings from a Buddha statue, symbolizing reverence and gratitude among Buddhists. Students and faculty alike participated in the symbolic act of pouring water over the heads of teachers, offering prayers for prosperity, success, and happiness in the Thai New Year.

The celebration underscored the school’s dedication to fostering cultural appreciation and understanding among its diverse student body. By embracing the customs and heritage of Southern Thailand, the event not only enriched the school community but also honored the timeless traditions that continue to unify Thai people across generations. As Songkran remains a cherished symbol of renewal and unity, the vibrant festivities exemplified the enduring spirit of Thai culture and the joyful embrace of new beginnings.

On February 23rd, 2024, Thai Club paid a visit to the Santisuk Day Care Center. This nursery school, operating in Chalongkrung, currently has up to 200 students attending. The visit was a heartwarming and enriching experience, as we were able to plan activities with the children and contribute essential supplies to support the school, including milk, snacks, and various kitchen essentials. The appreciation from the teachers and students there were palpable and filled the atmosphere with joy.听

The day at Santisuk began with an opening ceremony followed by four engaging activities planned by the Thai Club. There were 66 students present that morning, ranging from Kindergarten 1-3, and they were divided by class into 3 groups in circles. The activities were as follows: bag painting which allowed the children to unleash their creativity onto plain canvas bags, jigsaw puzzles that encouraged problem-solving and technical skills among the children, and lastly, the color scratching and origami activities entertained motor skills and interactive learning environments.

The children exhibited genuine curiosity and enthusiasm during these activities and showcased their creations at the end of our time together. It was a reminder of how small gestures can greatly influence younger learners. Following the activities, the teachers offered us a quick tour of the school which provided valuable insights into the daily routines, learning spaces, and the dedication of the teachers and staff.听

Our visit to Santisuk Day Care Center was a meaningful one that highlighted the importance of collective contribution by a community coming together, and inspired commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. This experience emphasized compassion and unity to demonsratte that by working together, we can create a brighter future for all.

Father鈥檚 Day is celebrated on December 5th which is the birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the monarch of Thailand. He was born in 1927 and died on October 13th, 2016.

扣扣传媒 – On Nut held a special ceremony in honor of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej to remember his birthday, Father鈥檚 Day and National Day in Thailand. On December 1st, our campus held a ceremony to celebrate fathers and let students show love for their fathers and father figures. Our American Sign Language (ASL) Club and High School choir performed a song called 喔ム浮喔笝喔侧抚 or 鈥楲ove in spring鈥�, which has a deep meaning made by King Rama 9. Then Mr.Brian Salter Townsend gave a meaningful speech about 鈥楩ather鈥檚 Day鈥�, followed by his sons, Patrick (Class of 2024) and Sean (Class of 2029) also give a heartfelt speech to their father.

Additionally, we had another adorable performance to 鈥業 Love My Daddy鈥� from the primary students in Grade 2. Lastly, a video presentation about Father鈥檚 Day was presented by some of the High School students. It was a beautiful ceremony to celebrate this important figure, as well as other father figures, in everyone鈥檚 life. Happy Father鈥檚 Day to all!

On Monday, November 27th, we had an amazing time celebrating our Loy Krathong festival at 扣扣传媒 – On Nut Campus.

This year, our students created Krathongs that are environmentally friendly and we celebrated in the northern style, called 鈥淟anna鈥� or Yi Peng Festival.

On Loy Krathong Day, our students came up with a traditional Thai dance, followed by a fashion show of Thai clothing from all four regions of Thailand and the different types of Krathong from each region. Both students and teachers showed off various Thai fashion and appreciation of Thai culture.

This was a special day where students and teachers alike came together and dressed in traditional Thai clothing to appreciate and celebrate our Thai culture.

Thank you to the Thai Department and everyone who participated in an amazing and memorable celebration for everyone.听

As a result of the Wells On Nut Thai department organizing these activities for Songkran, students at all levels enjoyed participation in the activities and all teachers also appreciated this event. This is another activity to promote and help students understand and celebrate Thai culture.

To open the celebrations, the teachers and students paraded down the street together led by teacher drummers. Performances by our students showed their appreciation for Thai music and culture. Seeing the students enjoy the music and dancing was the best aspect of the show. Wells Bang Na student鈥檚 are becoming confident performers and one of our Grade 3 students decided to MC parts of the show.听

One of the highlights this year was the tug-o-war game played between parents and students. The parents usually win, but this year, to everyone鈥檚 surprise, the teachers had the upper hand. Since the students were cheering so passionately for their parents, we had to reward the Mom鈥檚 and Dad鈥檚 who played with a special treat. They were awarded the privilege of throwing the first buckets of water and their victims were our teachers and school leaders!

The Songkran festival at Wells Bang Na gives everyone an opportunity to experience the beauty of Thai culture with our family and friends. On behalf of our community, we wish you a wonderful Songkran holiday!听

On the 28th of February, 2023, Thai Club paid a visit to the Bangkok School for the Blind. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with excitement. Visual impairment aside, children are still children, and they were eager and ready to take part in the activities we had arranged. These activities revolved around storytelling, imagination, and exploring the world through senses outside of touch. It was a fascinating experience and a great exercise in empathy and understanding. There were also elements of Thai culture, such as a Thai musical performance and making bualoy, a traditional Thai sweet.听

It should be noted here and not forgotten that the teachers at this school are wonderful. They are passionate about their work, and put so much effort into making sure that their students leave with as much knowledge as they can. They make school an enjoyable experience, where they are not shamed for their disabilities and can instead thrive. The children are enthusiastic and determined, propped up by the fantastic support system that is their education. At the end of our visit, we donated money and toys so we can further their quality of life and get to contribute to this system in a meaningful way.

Overall, the trip was a humbling service experience and gave all of us a greater understanding of the world. We take our sight for granted, but by interacting with the blind and seeing how they navigate the world, we can develop a deeper appreciation for the challenges they face and a greater desire to help. The way we live our lives might be different, but at the end of the day, we are all human with equally endless possibilities.听
