This past weekend from September 15th until the 17th, over 20 of Wells鈥 high school students attended the 13th annual ServICE Conference at NIST International School! The ServICE conference is a collaborative, largely student-led event organized by various international schools in Bangkok. The aim of the conference is to inspire, connect, and empower students to create meaningful changes within their communities and surrounding environment.

ServICE Conference 2023

ServICE Conference 2023

The conference provided students with opportunities to share and learn from each others鈥 experiences in collaboration with numerous local projects and organizations. This was achieved through various activities, such as the impassioned keynote speeches, 鈥楬ow-To鈥 sessions for students wishing to raise awareness about nationwide NGOs, and most memorably, the ICExperiences where students were able to gain firsthand experience with the missions of nonprofits.

On the first day of the conference, students were welcomed with a lively icebreaker, setting the tone for the day, followed by brief meet & greets from the ICExperiences. Followed by another popular event amongst students: the ICE Fair where organizations sold trinkets and were able to raise awareness and funds for their respective causes. To end the day, 鈥楬ow-To鈥 sessions were introduced as students made their way to the first rounds. Keynote speeches were delivered throughout the day as students reconvened in the auditorium to wind down and listen to their peers鈥 unique experiences.

ServICE Conference 2023

ServICE Conference 2023

ServICE Conference 2023

The second day of the conference followed a similar schedule to the first day; however, it was far more hands-on as new students had familiarized themselves with the events prior. The icebreaker energized students once more as students immersed themselves within their ICExperiences for the majority of the day. Students were placed in diverse groups giving them the chance to network and mingle with other students while simultaneously supporting community organizations, including RoyRak, Shark Guardians, Rescued Glass, Bangkok Soap Opera and Love Wildlife. Needless to say, countless friendships were formed during these workshops and students were able to collaboratively engage in direct service!

ServICE Conference 2023

The third day was the most hectic, but the most rewarding as the conference came to an end. It was truly bittersweet as our seniors rejoiced over a successful experience, but realized this would be their last conference. Needless to say, the day went by in a flash with most of the day dedicated to 鈥業CE Action Planning鈥 to spark change for the remainder of the school year, carrying on ServICE鈥檚 legacy beyond the conference. The ICE Fair was also brought back for the second time before the closing ceremony, marking the end of the 13th conference. Students bid their newly-made friends goodbye, and promised to cherish the memories made over the past few days and continue inter-school collaboration.

ServICE Conference 2023

ServICE Conference 2023

Special acknowledgements to a few of our student leaders: Sana Shibuichi, Rachel Kim, Franny Pandya and Tunn Sayamipuk (Class of 2024) for leading a How-To workshop on repurposing plastic bottles to combat plastic pollution in today鈥檚 world and raise awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability.

Overall, all of our students left the conference feeling inspired and empowered. It was energizing to interact and collaborate with peers from other schools. Wells would like to thank NIST for their exceptional job hosting the conference, as well as the teacher advisors for their ongoing support with this event.

ServICE Conference 2023

We look forward to seeing what students will do with their inspiration from the conference, and how they will continue to make a positive difference in the school and local community. We are also very excited to announce that next year鈥檚 conference will be hosted by 扣扣传媒 at our new Chonburi campus! We look back at the 13th with fondness, and look forward to the promise of the 14th!

At Wells Bang Na, we believe that education should not just be about acquiring knowledge but also about making a positive impact on the world. Recently, our Grade 2 students took on the challenge of creating inventions that could make the world a better place. Through their inquiry, they explored sustainable development goals and used their creativity and critical thinking skills to invent solutions to real-world problems.

During their Better World Fair, the Grade 2 students showcased their inventions to their families, friends, and fellow students. The fair was a celebration of their learning and a demonstration of their compassion for the communities around them. Each group presented models and diagrams of their creations, AI-generated images that they made in ICT, and information on the budget required.

The inventions presented by the students were diverse and addressed various sustainable development goals. For instance, some students created underwater drones to help monitor sea life, while others invented medicine dispensing robots, composting machines, or water purification tablets. Their inventions not only showed creativity and inventiveness but also reflected their empathy for the world around them.

Furthermore, the Grade 2 students chose to make a difference beyond their fair by collecting donations and raising money for the Save Elephant Foundation in Chiang Mai. Their compassion for wildlife and the environment is a testament to the impact that education can have on creating global citizens who are socially responsible and conscious.

At Wells Bang Na, we are proud of our Grade 2 students’ inventiveness, compassion, and commitment to making the world a better place. They have shown that even the smallest actions can make a difference, and we hope that their inventions inspire others to think creatively and work towards a sustainable future.

IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) candidates of the class of 2021, Hrithi Bhattacharya and Seung Eun Lee, created story books as part of the end of their Environmental Systems and Societies class here at Wells On Nut campus. As students aiming to change the world one student at a time, both IB DP seniors chose to focus on an environmental issue they thought most important to share with others, as part of developing their global citizenship and responsibility to make a positive impact on the younger generations.聽

IB ESS

Both Hrithi and Seung Eun created a story book to share with the Wells Bang Na campus and their younger peer learners. This gave an opportunity for intergenerational learning, and empowered these IB DP candidates and Wells graduates (#Class of 2021) to not only share their messages, but also learn and be inspired by the questions and work of these future Wells graduates and current IB Primary Years Program (IB PYP) students.聽

IB ESS

On the last day as seniors, Friday May 21, 2021, the IB DP class of 2021 graduate Hrithi joined Wells Bang Na Campus Grades 3, 4 and 5 to share the story book she wrote and designed followed by a Q&A session.聽

IB ESS

The Q&A session that followed gave an opportunity for the IB Primary Year students to ask their questions. Not only that, but since this was their first time making story books it was helpful that the younger students could give feedback on how the storybook might be improved. This feedback was insightful and showed the critical thinking and evaluation skills developing in these early learners!聽

IB ESS

IB ESS

Seung Eun鈥檚 story book was drawn by hand, and . She wrote and drew two chapters of a book that follows a girl and her stuffed animal through two journeys. The Wells Primary students have been busy learning online. Each Friday, the Primary students and teachers have been finding a special reason to come together and celebrate. In the previous weeks the celebration themes have been spirit dress-up events but this week we decided to practice gratitude. The students were engaged in discussions by their homeroom teachers about who are essential workers and how they help us every day. Many students took this time to reflect on their experience during the pandemic and those who have been important to them. The students listened to the song Good Job by Alicia Keys to provoke them into action. It is a beautiful song demonstrating what gratitude towards essentials workers can look like.聽

The students took action by creating their posters to recognize the essential workers who are often underappreciated in our day-to-day lives. To show their appreciation, the students selected who they wanted to make their poster for and what they would include on their posters. Some students chose to dedicate their posters to specific people in their lives who have helped them out, while others recognized the essential jobs in our community. The students used a variety of materials to create their posters. Some students included kind written words of thanks while others used pictures. Some students decided to create a poster that evoked the emotions that they feel when reflecting on essential workers.

On Friday, during P.E. class the Grade 1 and Grade 2 classes shared their posters with all the Primary students and teachers. Everyone held up their poster at the end of the class with pride and excitement.聽 It was very touching to see the diversity of creative expression and the students’ attention to detail. All the posters were unique and beautiful.

On behalf of all the Primary students and teachers, we would like to thank all the essential workers who keep us safe. We can continue our lives because of their strength, hard work and amazing dedication. They taught us how to be better members of the community. We are all grateful for being role models to us all.聽
