Grade 2 Field Trip: Unveiling the Secrets of The Royal Thai Mint

The International Baccalaureate, Primary Years Program, encourages students and teachers to make connections to real world contexts, strengthening learning and understanding. This supports the inquiry process, and allows students to “go further”, fostering a greater understanding of the world around them.

In the current unit, students have explored the transdisciplinary theme “How we organize ourselves”, which is an inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems. The central or main idea for Grade 2 is “Money is a system that gives value to goods and services”. Under this central idea we have explored lines of inquiry into banks, money, spending, saving, budgets, being responsible with money and concepts such as demand and supply. As part of each unit, students are encouraged to take action and will do that by raising money for charity through the organization of a big event at the culmination of the unit.

On their field trip to the Royal Thai Mint, the children learned all about the coin creation process, starting from initial sketches to the final coin press. While we were at the Royal Thai Mint, students put the staff through their paces with their challenging inquiries. An example of which was “how do they go from a large design to a print on a small coin?” The answer is truly fascinating indeed.

The benefits of this captivating field trip were extensive, leaving the children full of newfound knowledge and anticipation for the adventures that await in their next unit of inquiry.

Wells Kids Spread Holiday Happiness with Christmas Carols at Bangkok’s Samitivej Hospital

The students of �ۿ۴�ý spread Christmas joy at two hospitals recently. Both the Bang Na and Thong Lo campuses visited Samitivej Hospital to share the joy of Christmas through their cheerful voices. These primary students brought smiles and warmth to the hospital environment with their sweet renditions of classic holiday songs. The simple act of the children singing showcased the true spirit of the season and highlighted how even small gestures can make a big difference in brightening the holiday season for those in need. The visit was a beautiful reminder of the power of kindness and community, leaving behind a lasting impression of warmth and happiness at Samitivej Hospital.

Our K2 students worked hard to showcase their talents and creativity on Friday, December 1,2023.�� From heartwarming acts to delightful displays of skill, the showcase promised to be a memorable event for both parents and students alike. The stage came alive with the energy and enthusiasm of our young stars, creating a joyful atmosphere that resonates with the spirit of our vibrant K2 community.

To add a flavorful twist to the day, we invited our K2 families for a picnic potluck following the showcase. Parents enjoyed the showcase, indulged in the food, and took part in the vibrant conversations that made the day even more enjoyable.

The participation and enthusiasm of all made our community vibrant and dynamic!

Happy Loy Krathong Day! The spirit of this vibrant festival came alive at �ۿ۴�ý as our students adorned themselves in traditional Thai attire, embracing the rich cultural heritage of one of Thailand’s grandest celebrations.
The festivities kicked off with a heartfelt speech about Loy Krathong delivered by our insightful Grade 1 students. Their words set the tone for a day filled with cultural immersion and joyous celebration. Following this, our talented students graced the stage with a captivating Loy Krathong dance performance, drawing everyone into the beauty of this traditional Thai festival. The joy was contagious, and soon, students and staff joined in, dancing together in unison, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.
But the celebration didn’t stop there. Various stations were set up to engage everyone in the richness of Loy Krathong traditions. Students had the opportunity to learn the intricate art of crafting Krathong from lotus leaves, a hands-on experience that connected them to the cultural roots of the festival.
A special note of gratitude goes out to all the parents who actively participated, contributing to the success of this special occasion. Your involvement made Loy Krathong Day at �ۿ۴�ý a truly memorable and enriching experience for everyone.

The day was immersed in an aura of mystery and spine-tingling excitement, as students wholeheartedly embraced the��Halloween��spirit with their boundless creativity and infectious enthusiasm.

Halloween��󲹰��ٱ��grooved to the haunting melodies of their favorite��Halloween��tunes. The school’s playground was transformed into a bubbling cauldron of excitement.��
Following the spirited dance, a captivating school-wide fashion show took center stage, unveiling the students’ “boo-tiful” costumes. These imaginative ensembles ranged from the irresistibly cute to the spine-tinglingly haunting, showcasing the students’ artistic ingenuity and their fervor for the��Halloween��season. The runway was graced by vampires, superheroes, monsters, and a multitude of fantastical characters, each with a story to tell.

One of the highlights of the day was the��spooky��story narrated by our dedicated teaching staff. As each page turned, students were enveloped in an eerie tale filled with spine-chilling surprises and hair-raising moments. This immersive experience added a thrilling new dimension to their��Halloween��celebration and left an indelible mark on their memories.

On Thursday, October 12, the Thong Lo campus’�� first fire drill of the year was a remarkable display of preparedness and discipline. The commitment of both students and staff to safety and the successful execution of the drill reaffirm the school’s dedication to maintaining a secure environment for its community. As we move forward, the invaluable lessons learned from this exercise will continue to shape the culture of safety within the campus.
Students, without exception, exhibited maturity and responsibility as they evacuated their classrooms with remarkable speed, all while maintaining a calm and orderly environment. There was no pushing, shoving, or panic, which speaks volumes about the discipline and preparedness of both students and the staff.
The success of any fire drill depends not only on the swift evacuation but also on the accountability of every individual. In this regard, the teachers and assistants played a crucial role. They efficiently organized students by class into well-defined lines at the designated assembly point. Their meticulous approach ensured that no one was left behind, as they took attendance and confirmed that every student was accounted for. This level of organization instills confidence that the school community is well-prepared to handle emergencies.
In addition to being a practical exercise in fire safety, the fire drill served as a valuable learning experience for both students and staff. By participating in this drill, they gained a firsthand understanding of the importance of preparedness and teamwork during critical moments. Friday, September 8th, �ۿ۴�ý, Thong-Lo, witnessed an extraordinary event that left both students and educators buzzing with excitement. We had a school filled with pint-sized superheroes—spidey senses tingling, capes billowing, and smiles beaming. This was the scene at �ۿ۴�ý on “Superheroes in Training Day.” The students embraced their inner heroes, dressed up as their favorite superheroes, and embarked on a day filled with superhero-themed activities that fired up their imaginations. The event featured various stations and activities designed to instill vital life skills and values. Children were introduced to the world of health, nutrition, safety, and environmental conservation through engaging activities. The day reinforced the idea that learning can be fun, and important lessons can be imprinted in the minds of young learners through creative and enjoyable means.

On a bright and sunny day, Wells Thong Lo school grounds were transformed into a vibrant arena of excitement and friendly competition as students from nursery through grade 2 came together for an unforgettable Sports Day. The air was filled with laughter, cheers, and the spirit of friendship as our four teams, donning the colors green, red, blue, and yellow, showcased their talents and sportsmanship. This exhilarating event not only celebrated our love for sports but also fostered unity among our young and enthusiastic students. We are immensely proud of our students’ participation and achievements, and we look forward to many more unforgettable Sports Days in the years to come.

Wells Thong Lo | Songkran Splash Festival 2023

Songkran is Thailand’s most famous festival and a favorite here at Wells Thong Lor. Every year our school community works together to make it a success and this year was no exception. To mark the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year Wells students from all over the globe paid respect to and celebrated Thai culture. They performed traditional Thai dances before participating in the water ceremony, where students wished their teachers a happy Songkran in the traditional way by pouring water and jasmine petals over their hands.�� Songkran is a time to cleanse and pay respects but also to let loose in wild water fights. The support staff at Wells Thong Lor worked extremely hard in transforming our school playground into a water park. The students and teachers made their way around a variety of events including the ‘slip n slide’, ‘pool games, and ‘water slide’, not forgetting the ‘��ܲ԰�’ where students got the chance to dunk their teacher, this proved to be a favorite. Thank you to all our students, parents, teachers, and support staff at Wells Thong Lor! What a fantastically fun Songkran full of smiles, laughter, and a lot of water! Wishing all of our families a wonderful and safe holiday. We will see you on Monday 17th April. �� ��
