On Wednesday, April 3rd, students were buzzing with excitement around campus, actively engaged in various activities and workshops. Workshops included planting, composting, cookie decorating, Japanese calligraphy with Japanese club, keychain making with BDFY club, Korean language learning with Korean club and tote bag painting with Wells helping PAWS. Students had fun engaging in workshops, interacting with their younger peers, as well as teaching their teachers!

On Thursday, April 4th, we had the honor of some special guest speakers joining us during to share their knowledge and insights on various topics and inspire visitors to make conscious choices that help make positive differences in their communities. Our speakers included our alumni Sami Soni (Class of 2017) speaking about her non-profit organization, Thailand Animal Shelter, helping educate primary students about reducing waste, Mr. Chris Oestereich from taking students on a journey about systems thinking and Mr. Dean Madeira from , who enlightened us about the sustainability in cleft lip and palate surgeries.聽

We also hosted a Movie Night under the stars, inviting our students and their families to an outdoor movie showing, with proceeds going to , a shelter for stray animals our Wells K9 club has been working with for many years.聽聽

On the last day, we celebrated with a Songkran-style farmer鈥檚 market booth fair, where a variety of our clubs, local community organizations, primary classes, parents and teachers hosted booths. This included our community partners, , , , , as well as many of our clubs: Greenhawks, ASL, Thai Club, Japanese Club, PAWS, etc.

Through our Farmer’s Market event, we raised funds for CHSAThai and other local causes that work towards sustainability in our community. Our visitors were able to contribute to these causes by purchasing products from the various booths or making direct donations. We believe that supporting these organizations is crucial in promoting sustainability and service learning as part of our school culture.

The 3-day Farmer’s Market event was a big success in promoting sustainability in our community. We would like to thank all of the passionate educators and students for their enthusiasm and collaboration in creating a memorable, fun and educational experience to bring us into the Songkran break.聽 We look forward to hosting similar events in the future and continuing to promote sustainability and service in our community.

Students from every grade level took center stage during the festivities, enchanting attendees with mesmerizing performances that highlighted the arts, culture, and traditions of Southern Thailand. The Rum Glong Yaow Parade and Roeng Songkran were among the highlights, offering glimpses into the beliefs and customs of the Southern Thai people, who consider Songkran a time for auspicious rituals to usher in good luck for the coming year.

A particularly captivating part of the celebration was the Nang Talung, a shadow puppet show rich in symbolism and cultural importance, reflecting the essence of Southern Thai heritage. Attendees also enjoyed traditional Thai folk dances pulsating with lively music and accompanied by unique instruments such as bagpipes, immersing them further in the festive atmosphere.

Amidst the joyous performances, the Wells community paid homage to the sacred traditions associated with Songkran, including the revered Rod Num Dum Hua ceremony. This solemn ritual involved pouring water and seeking blessings from a Buddha statue, symbolizing reverence and gratitude among Buddhists. Students and faculty alike participated in the symbolic act of pouring water over the heads of teachers, offering prayers for prosperity, success, and happiness in the Thai New Year.

The celebration underscored the school’s dedication to fostering cultural appreciation and understanding among its diverse student body. By embracing the customs and heritage of Southern Thailand, the event not only enriched the school community but also honored the timeless traditions that continue to unify Thai people across generations. As Songkran remains a cherished symbol of renewal and unity, the vibrant festivities exemplified the enduring spirit of Thai culture and the joyful embrace of new beginnings.

As a result of the Wells On Nut Thai department organizing these activities for Songkran, students at all levels enjoyed participation in the activities and all teachers also appreciated this event. This is another activity to promote and help students understand and celebrate Thai culture.

The Thai Department at Wells On Nut Campus organized a Songkran Festival at school this year to commemorate Thai culture. Because of the Covid-19 situation, we did not host typical Songkran activities such as pouring water onto the image of the Buddha, pouring water over elder’s hands and asking for blessings, or splashing water.

Instead, the Thai Department organized some more appropriate activities and invited all teachers and students to wear Thai clothes or colorful Songkran shirts, create colorful bulletin boards, play Thai games and various classroom activities.

This created a bright and warm atmosphere in the school. The teachers and students had fun engaging in the activities which reflect Thailand’s identity and culture.

On March 31, 2021, the Thai department organized a Songkran ceremony at Wells On Nut Campus.聽The main activity was the Thai tradition of offering water from students to teachers, known as the Rod Nam Dam Hua ceremony. In this tradition, young people, in this case our students, pour water over the hands of their revered elders and ask for a blessing.

In honor of this respected tradition and the Thai New Year, many students and teachers also wore Thai traditional outfits or typical Songkran flower shirts. The event was an enjoyable one to bring in the new year and start everyone on their Songkran break.

扣扣传媒 On Nut Campus had a Songkran Festival Celebration on April 5th 2019, from 8:00 鈥� 8:40 a.m. and invited the school community to participate by providing promotional materials, such as event posters and emails.

The Songkran Festival Celebration consisted of 4 performances. Firstly, there was a Thai Instrumental performance of 鈥淜ang Kao Gin Glua鈥� and 鈥淩um Wong Wan Songkran.鈥� Following this, there was a Thai traditional game presented by students from Primary School (G3/4 Non-Native Thai class) called 鈥淢on Sonpha.鈥� The G10 Thai Native class also performed a dance routine to the song, 鈥淥h La-Nor鈥y Love鈥�, and the last performance was by the teachers, performing a traditional Thai dance called 鈥淪erng-kapor.鈥� After these performances, the event concluded with the Water Ceremony 鈥淩od Nam Khor Pon,鈥� where representative students poured water on their teachers鈥� hands to receive blessings from elders for the Thai New Year.

The objective of this celebration was to demonstrate the importance of Thai culture and to encourage students鈥� appreciation of Thai heritage and traditions. After the celebration, feedback received from parents, teachers and students was positive as the event was educational, enjoyable and fostered collaboration within the Wells school community.

On Friday, March 30, our school community – administration, teachers, students, and parents – gathered to celebrate the 2018 Sonkgran Thai New Year Festival at our On Nut Campus, hosted by the Thai Department. Sonkgran is a very important holiday in Thailand, in which Thai traditions are preserved and water is used as a symbol of cleansing and starting anew to welcome in the new year.

Everyone wore Thai traditional dress of colorful flowered shirts in typical Songkran fashion. A group of our high school students showcased a Thai dance performance and others honored the tradition of ‘Rot Nam Dam Hua’, a traditional way to celebrate with one’s elders and ask for blessings. The day was filled with other water-themed activities for our students and everyone had an enjoyable time!

Wells wishes all families and community members a Happy Songkran and a wonderful start to the Thai new year!
