A relatively light two weeks in sports due to the mid-term break featured more volleyball games for both boys and girls JV teams, and a single basketball game for the Senior Girls.

The JV Boys Volleyball Team continues to face the bigger teams of BISAC, beginning with an away game at Ekamai International School. Despite taking a quick 2-0 lead, the young Seahawks could not put it away as the host Flames roared back to win three games in a row to take the match 3-2. Similarly, inconsistency and inexperience took its toll against the Lions of Harrow International School with Wells once again dropping a close match 3-2. The Seahawks were finally able to get back into the win column with a single match during the mid-term break against the Wolves of Ramkamhaeng Adventist International School. Heroics from freshman reserve Sitibhum “Tenn” Chaiwatnarathorn and Thapadit “Oxygen” Suksakorn helped the Seahawks fend off 8 game points to steal games 1 and 3 away from the Wolves, on their way to a 3-1 win.

Also seeing action was the JV Girls Volleyball Team with a home game versus Ekamai International School. Despite showing steady improvement since the beginning of the season, the Lady Seahawks were no match for the older and more experienced Flames, losing 3-0.

The lone basketball game came just before the mid-term break with the Senior Girls hosting Regents International School. Every player on the host team had a chance to play as the Lady Seahawks dominated the game from the start and cruised to a 26-8 victory.

The Seahawks come back from break with a heavy slate of both basketball and volleyball games. The Boys JV Volleyball team stays home to take on BISAC heavyweights Bangkok Pattana (Monday) and Harrow (Thursday), while the volleyball girls take a break. In basketball, Wells takes on St. Andrew’s (U11 Coed, U15 Boys, U15 Girls), BCIS (U11 Coed, U15 Boys, U15 Girls), and St. Stephen’s (Senior Boys, Senior Girls).

Bangna – It was an auspicious start to the week-long series of TISAC badminton tourneys for the Seahawk badminton team. In just its second year in the conference, the Under 11s team captured the boys singles and mixed doubles titles, and placed 2nd in boys doubles, accumulating a total of 74 team points en route to earning the overall team title.

Finn Dardarananda, grade 3, brought home his second boys singles title in as many years. Finn was flawless in pool play, blanking opponents from St. Andrew’s, St. Stephen’s, and Charter, to earn a spot in the championship rounds. In the semi-finals, host school Concordian couldn’t take advantage of their home court advantage, as Finn once again cruised 2-0. The final match was just a rematch against his pool’s runner-up finisher from St. Andrew’s, where Finn was able to cap of his perfect record with a 2-0 championship win.

Pawan and Darshan, both grade 4, paired off for the mixed doubles competition, where they also cruised to a perfect record with wins over familiar foes from St. Andrew’s, St. Stephen’s, and Charter. However, the championship round presented two new challengers, the first from Kessinee, who the mixed pair easily disposed of 2-0, followed by our British neighbors from Bangkok Prep in the championship game. Like Finn, Pawan and Darshan easily handled the challenge, beating the prepsters 2-0.

In the boys doubles, twins Yash and Shre, grade 4, nearly earned a trifecta for their school. After going undefeated in pool play, once again against St. Andy’s (2-1), St. Steph (2-0), and Charter (2-0), the brothers easily advanced to the final match by defeating Regents, 2-0. However, the host Dragons of Concordian wouldn’t be denied their lone title, as Yash and Shre dropped the championship game, 0-2, to settle for second place.

Also representing Wells were Nikara (girls singles), who advanced as far as the semi-final match, and Vivi and Hazina (girls doubles).

Go Seahawks!

The 2010 TISAC Football Season started this week with the Wells Seahawks putting on a respectable show, posting 3 strong wins versus 3 losses.

On Monday, the youngest Seahawks were all victorious with our Under-9 team beating Ascot International School 4-0. Continuing the rout over Ascot was our Under 11s team with a lopsided score of 7-2. Both teams played at Wells’ new home field at the Piyarom Sports Complex.

A bit of a pleasant surprise came on Tuesday as our Under 13 Boys visited KIS International School. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Seahawks stormed back in the second half to win 3-1.

In other games, the Senior Girls fell to Regents 2-0 in a close game, and the Under 15 boys dropped their game versus St. Andrew’s 6-0.

Week #2 games begin next Monday, with the Under 13’s Boys taking on Charter International School, 3:00pm at Piyarom. On Tuesday, the Under 9s and Under 11s also go up against Charter, 1:00pm at Piyarom, while the Senior Girls play at 3:00pm at St. Andrew’s and Senior Boys play Kesinee at 3:00pm at Piyarom.
