Wells is proud of our ongoing collaboration with the International Baccalaureate (IB) in providing an opportunity for students to build their skills to be not only ready for the next steps of university, but to foster their mindsets as lifelong learners that strive to make the world a better place. We are proud of the 273 graduates from Wells who pursued the IB Diploma and the IB Certificates over the past 10 years. Wells looks forward to the reflective process to continue that will allow us to develop further as we work alongside the IB in our five-year review.

The IB Diploma Programme has provided students at Wells with opportunities to take ownership over their learning, develop their personal and cultural identities, and engage with ideas from the local to global that allows them to take action in the wider community.

IBDP 10 Years

“I joined the DP program with 2 goals: to research, and to become a better learner/thinker. The EE and IAs fulfilled my first goal. As for the second, the TOK course and its pervasiveness across all other subjects helped me become more reflective and aware of my own learning process and the knowledge journey in general. It also made me form an interconnectedness perspective of all subjects. This opened up new possible combinations of my academic interests that I hope to pursue moving forward.” (Graduate from Class of 2023)

“The IBDP at Wells was very inclusive of the student’s perspective and thoughts. Especially while working on the Internal Assessments and the Extended Essay, I was able to pursue ideas that I was curious about. Wells Students Care!聽

Wells鈥 students are caring! Every month the early years building at 扣扣传媒 Bang Na holds an assembly. These assemblies are based on the IB learner profiles. Learner profiles are qualities every IB students embody. This help them make exceptional contributions in and outside of school. Exposing and acknowledging these traits in early years is important for our students to be well-rounded. Wells youngest students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged.

Our Assembly

During the caring assembly, students were grouped by their classes into five different stations. They practiced different ways of being caring. One of the activities was an electricity squeeze. Students held hands standing in a circle and practiced passing on a squeeze. This relates to the concept of when others are kind and caring to you, you can be kind and caring to others. The caring spreads like electricity to build a more caring community

Learning By Doing

Other stations included: watching a short clip on caring, practicing saying caring things to one another, a read aloud, thinking of community helpers, friends, family members, or teachers and stating why they think they are caring. A teacher wrote down the students鈥 ideas. They will be posted on our caring wall. Lastly, students were able to color a picture and think of someone they wanted to give it too.聽

In the end, each teacher presented a 鈥渃aring certificate鈥 to award and acknowledge one student in their class who consistently demonstrates the caring quality. Way to go!聽

Responsible Citizens

At 扣扣传媒 Bang Na, our grade two students have been inquiring into “Who We Are”.聽 This transdisciplinary theme focused on how responsible citizens can work together in order to create a better community.聽 The lines of inquiry were: People as responsible citizens, responsible citizens affect a community, and taking action responsibly. The key concepts that the students focused on were change and聽 reflection.聽 The learner profile attributes that we practiced in grade two were being caring and principled.

School Improvement Project

Grade two students worked as a team and thought of ways that we could improve our community for everyone at our school.聽 One project that our students decided on was to clean up the walls in the hallway.聽 Another group decided that they wanted to paint a mural in order to beautify our school. 聽The students also created a list of needed materials and asked our principal and art teacher for the supplies. The art teacher outlined their design on the wall for the students and helped supervise the students as they painted.

Teamwork

All Grade 2 students worked together and took turns to paint the mural on the wall This student initiated- student led project’s end result is an amazing mural representing the IB learner profile pouring into our school. The learner profile states the attributes that we want our students to achieve in order to be the best learners they can be!聽 These attributes include being open minded, knowledgeable, communicator, risk taker, principled, reflective, balanced, thinker, inquirer, and caring. The ultimate goal of the IB program (we are currently an IB PYP candidate school) is to encourage our students to be deep thinkers and take action. This project clearly embodied this goal!
