The school grounds were transformed into a colorful mosaic of national pride, as everyone donned their traditional attire, showcasing the stunning diversity within our community. From intricate saris and elegant hanbok to vibrant African prints and classic Mexican costumes, the fashion was both remarkable and inspiring, a testament to the beauty of cultural expression.

Students took center stage with a series of original performances. Their dances and songs, though sweet and simple, were filled with enthusiasm and joy, reflecting the uniqueness of the students performing.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the teacher and parent-led activity booths were a major highlight. Each booth provided a mini-introduction to a different country, offering a hands-on learning experience that was both fun and informative.

The food festival is always the big highlight of any international day celebration, and this year our community was incredibly generous in their sharing of delicious desserts and savoury samplings! It was clear to see that parents had spent hours preparing their dishes, as great attention to detail was given to the display and flavors of the food we shared.

Celebrating Language & Culture

With this year’s theme being ‘Celebrating Language & Culture’, our language clubs organized a special Language & Culture week to spread awareness about the diverse range of languages spoken by our community members.

Currently, we have six cultural/language clubs: ASL club, Chinese club, Desi club, Japanese Club, Korean club and Thai club. These clubs collaborated to create a fun week celebrating languages through different activities like teaching Thai to teachers, performing the National anthem in ASL, or teaching various languages and cultural games to younger students. ASL taught community members how to sign different emotions in American Sign Language, as can be seen in .Ìý

During International Day, the main focus was investigating how people celebrate different cultures and languages around the world. Primary shared their bulletin boards, which explored languages around the world and middle and high school students and clubs hosted informative booths with interactive activities from various countries and regions around the world.

There was also a flag parade with community members proudly displaying their flags and celebrating diversity as a community. Performances from various cultures were given by Wells performers, including Korean club, Desi club, breakdance club, our teachers, parents and other talented performing artists in our school community.

Service for Operation SmileÌý

Initiated by our Wells SerWIS Club, a majority of the proceeds raised from our homerooms and student-led clubs were donated to , and proceeds raised with our class and club booths were donated to this and other club-related causes as part of our community emphasis on service.Ìý

Overall, International Day 2023 turned out to be a huge success and an exciting day of collaboration, community, and celebration among all of our staff, students, teachers, and parents in which smiles and laughter demonstrated our shared sense of community and diversity. A very special thank you goes to Ms. Kan, our Visual & Performing Arts Department, our language clubs and everyone else who contributed their hard work and effort into creating a very memorable event!

On Tuesday, November 8th, the Wells community gathered at Wells On Nut Campus for International Day 2022: Global Rejuvenation! International Day is a day for the entire school to come together and celebrate the diversity of our student, teacher, and staff population, as well as recognize, appreciate and learn about other cultures around the world. This event nicely aligns with our ESLR of Global Citizenship and the IB concept of ‘international mindedness’. In an increasingly diverse world, our goal is to continue to remain open-minded to worldwide diversity and differences, and to practice acceptance and respect as an international attitude.

Global Rejuvenation

With this year’s theme being ‘Global Rejuvenation’, the celebration was focused on the celebrating of a rejuvenation of life and culture around the world in a post-pandemic world. We explored how countries and regions celebrate rejuvenation in various ways, with the central question being: In our post-pandemic world, how do we celebrate ‘rejuvenation’ around the world? This theme was reflected through a flag parade, interactive booths, activities, workshops, performances, and a range of international food! Performances from various cultures were given by Wells performers, including Korean club, Thai Dance club, our teachers, and other talented performing artists in our school community.

Service Component

Initiated by our Wells SerWIS Club, a majority of the proceeds raised from our homerooms and student-led clubs were donated to , which operates over 20 projects in the fields of education, child abuse, and welfare of the elderly and slum youths. They carry out this service through community kindergartens, educational sponsorships, rehabilitation centers, in-home support, traveling puppetÌý troupes, a local credit union and regular activities at our Klong Toey center.

United & Connected

With this year’s theme being ‘United & Connected’, the celebration was focused on the characteristics that unite us as humans across cultures and continents! We explored how countries unite within and across countries and borders through the following themes: food, shelter, clothing, education, language and leadership/government. What do we all have in common, and what unites and connects us across countries and cultures? This theme was reflected through interactive booths, activities, workshops, performances, and a range of international food. Performances were given by various Performing Arts classes, Korean club, Thai Dance club, breakdance club, and other talented performing artists in our school community.

ÌýService Component

Some of the proceeds raised from our homerooms and student-led clubs were donated to Cancelling Cancers, Ìýa student led organization which aims to raise funds to support immunotherapy research at the . CUSB was founded in 2016 with the support from Chulalongkorn University and The King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital to conduct research and development in immunotherapy treatment. It has the mission to provide accessible and affordable immunotherapy treatment for all the Thai people.Ìý

Our SerWIS club also raised money for , whose special guests also joined us in our ‘United & Connected’ celebration.Ìý

On Friday, October 19th, the ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ community gathered for International Day, our annual celebration of the diversity of our student, teacher, and staff population, as well as recognize, appreciate and learn about other cultures around the world. This event nicely aligns with our ESLR of Global Citizenship and the IB concept of ‘international mindedness’. In an increasingly connected world, our goal is to continue to remain open-minded to worldwide diversity and differences, and to practice acceptance and respect as an international attitudes.

The theme for International Day 2018 was ‘Wells World Festivals’. Our students, teachers, staff, and parents collaborated to prepare booths, activities, performances, and ethnic food to celebrate diverse festivals from around the globe. The students learned about various cultures through their traditions and meanings behind their respective festivals. ÌýOur primary students excitedly traveled around to the different booths with their specially-made passports to learn about each country and engage in fun activities from around the globe. Some of the festivals represented included Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos, India’s Holi festival, Korea’s Chuseok festival, and Philippines’ Pahiyas festival.

Our special guests and supporting charity this year was . ÌýAll of the proceeds raised from our student clubs and homerooms were donated to Camillian home, in support of their home and upcoming event, on Saturday, November 17th.

This year, we gathered many student, teacher and parent representatives for a flag parade to introduce our range of diverse cultures represented here at Wells. Everyone dressed up in their cultural wear and proudly waved their flags to kick off the performances.

The performances demonstrated a variety of cultural backgrounds and traditions, including Thai traditional dance, Japanese song and dance, and Indonesian clap dance. There was a special performance of ‘Shosholoza’ by our Visual and Performing Arts teachers and Head of School, Mr. Ray, as well as a Thai-Indian dance performed by some of our teachers and parents.

International Day 2018 turned out to be a huge success! It was a big day of collaboration, community, and celebration among all of our staff, students, and parents, in which smiles, laughter and fun were abundant.

Most of our teachers at Wells Bang Na come from a country other than Thailand and getting to know Thailand has been amazing. We love to learn about new cultures. ÌýOur students are from many different countries in the world as are our students’ parents and grandparents. Many of our children speak multiple languages and have a complex family history.

Being from different parts of the world and coming together in peace and respect is not always easy. We see it as our task to install an open mind and a curiosity for other values and viewpoints in our students. We are all different but share one world together. Being open minded and respectful are necessary attributes at our school.

International Day started with a few interactive activities including a yoga demonstration, a hula dance lesson and a whole school sing along led by K2 and K3 students. ÌýAfter that, it was time for our students to travel the world! They were able to visit India, Japan, Korea, India, China, Israel, the United States, Thailand and Australia. The kids were able to play games, try different food, make crafts and experience the various countries. The kids, teachers, parents and community had a wonderful time exploring the cultures of the world!
