Over the preceding year, Wells Bang Na has engaged in a rigorous process of self-study, meticulously examining every facet of its operations and educational practices. This included a thorough review of governance structures, organizational frameworks, curriculum delivery, student support systems, faculty development initiatives, and community engagement strategies. The objective was not just to meet the accreditation standards but to gain insight on what should be prioritized in the upcoming school years.聽

The evaluation visit served as an opportunity for external evaluators to scrutinize and validate the school’s self-assessment findings. They conducted interviews, observed classroom activities, analyzed documentation, and interacted with various stakeholders to gain a comprehensive understanding of Wells Bang Na’s educational ethos and practices.

Community involvement and collaboration were also integral aspects of the evaluation process. The evaluators assessed the extent to which Wells Bang Na fosters partnerships with parents, local organizations, and other stakeholders to enrich the educational experience and contribute positively to the broader community.

As the evaluation visit concluded, the Wells Bang Na community eagerly awaits the feedback and recommendations from the IB and WASC evaluators. While the process has been rigorous, it has also been an affirming testament to the school’s unwavering commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. Regardless of the outcome, the journey towards accreditation has been a transformative experience, reinforcing Wells Bang Na’s position as a leading institution dedicated to nurturing future-ready global citizens.

The IB Diploma Programme has provided students at Wells with opportunities to take ownership over their learning, develop their personal and cultural identities, and engage with ideas from the local to global that allows them to take action in the wider community.

“I joined the DP program with 2 goals: to research, and to become a better learner/thinker. The EE and IAs fulfilled my first goal. As for the second, the TOK course and its pervasiveness across all other subjects helped me become more reflective and aware of my own learning process and the knowledge journey in general. It also made me form an interconnectedness perspective of all subjects. As a school, we are proud to reflect on our progress in developing our IB Diploma Programme for the past 10 years, and eagerly look forward to continuous development of the programme moving forward. We commend our IB Diploma and Certificate candidates over the years for attempting, accomplishing and persevering throughout such an academically rigorous program. We recognize we must continue to create and innovate in order to provide quality education for our students in a complex and ever-changing global context.

Fostering Confidence and Growth:

Beyond the dazzling performances, the talent show served as a valuable platform for students to build confidence and develop their skills. The process of auditioning, rehearsing, and performing in front of an audience provided a valuable learning experience. Students had the opportunity to overcome stage fright, conquer their fears, and express themselves freely. The feedback and applause they received further bolstered their self-esteem and encouraged them to pursue their passions with determination and dedication.

The TOK exhibition has replaced the original TOK presentation as the course鈥檚 internal assessment (IA). The purpose of the exhibition is for students to demonstrate how TOK manifests itself in the world around them. They do this through creating an exhibition of three objects which have a real-world context, and demonstrating how these objects connect to one of the IA prompts provided by the IB. Throughout the year, students have been working towards this final event, completing related assessments, such as show & tell, mini exhibition posters and a mock exhibition.

These are some of the prompts our students explored:

• Why do we seek knowledge?
• Does some knowledge belong only to particular communities of knowers?
• What is the relationship between knowledge and culture?
• Can new knowledge change established values or beliefs?
• To what extent is certainty attainable?聽
• What counts as good evidence for a claim? (IBDP Theory of Knowledge Subject Guide, 2020)

Contrary to last year, we were able to host the exhibition in person, in our school library and IB room spaces. Teachers and students from middle and high school joined to learn more about the Theory of Knowledge course, as well as gain new knowledge related to each unique individual exhibition.聽

We commend the students for their efforts in completing the TOK exhibition in their first year of the IB Diploma Programme, and celebrate their first completed IA of many!

Our Head of School, Mr. Ray de la Pe帽补, first presented an overview of the Wells philosophy, education systems and major academic and extracurricular achievements over the years. Wells aims to provide an affordable and quality international education, as well as a diverse range of personalized academic, athletic and extracurricular opportunities for students to develop and thrive based on their unique strengths and talents. To name a few, these opportunities include our Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, elite athlete programs, community service, and University of Hawaii Summer Science Camp.聽

Following the first presentation, Ms. Tina Yang, Chief Operating Officer of European International University (EIU), shared about EIU鈥檚 mission to provide affordable and quality higher education to a diverse group of international students across the globe. She also discussed EIU鈥檚 accomplishments at present and their vision for the future to integrate more blockchain technology and AI into their learning systems. Finally, Mr. Osris Lee, Special Assistant to the Chairman, presented a new concept, 鈥榃ellsverse鈥�, an initiative to utilize technology and create interactive learning and engaging educational experiences for students.聽

After the presentations, the guests were given a tour of our Wells On Nut Campus for the guests to see our facilities and school environment which support the learning and extracurricular activities which happen within the primary, middle and high school.聽

Overall, our guests were very impressed learning about Wells鈥� accomplishments and future plans for continued growth and improvement of quality educational experiences. Wells is happy to collaborate with international partners and would like to extend a sincere thank you to our guests for taking the time to visit our community and learn more about our ethos.

Youth Leadership Training

IB Regional Workshops

Youth leadership was highlighted as an important part of IB’s student-centered philosophy in the IB Asia-Pacific Regional Workshops. It also showcased how embedding systems thinking and empowering youth leadership across subject areas and grade levels create a flourishing future through education. As part of this pilot program, the youth leader participants presented inspirational keynote speeches, student-led breakout sessions, and most of them co-facilitated 3-day IB workshops with IB workshop leaders. Students were able to gain a deeper understanding of various IB programs and crucial concepts in education, as well as gain leadership and teaching experience, as many of them led discussions and activities and actively engaged in discussions, providing valuable student perspectives for the purpose of educator development.
