A Triumphant Sports Day at 扣扣传媒聽

History was made on a sunny Monday morning on December 4th at the 扣扣传媒 Chonburi Campus. The Chonburi campus opened its gates to all Wells Primary students from all four campuses in Thailand. The early morning sun and a cool breeze welcomed the buses and vans as the students arrived in their sports team shirts. The air was charged with anticipation as the entire school community came together to celebrate a day filled with sporting events, teamwork and opportunities to make new friends.听

Primary Sports Day 2023

The Sports Day event was not just a regular sports day; it was a celebration of the unity that defines 扣扣传媒. The students took turns participating in various events such as swimming, hurdles, running relays, cross-country running, and even tricycle racing. One of the highlights was the tug-of-war event as parents and team members were cheering from the sidelines. Our students showed their resilience during the cross-country racing as they raced around the village lake. Equally important, the students had a chance to cool off in the main school building, where various teams threw balls into the basketball nets. The events were planned to showcase our students鈥 potential for future teams and events.听

The parents’, teachers’, and students鈥 hard work was pivotal to the success of the day. A special thank you goes to the organizing team at Chonburi campus, including the area coordinators, event coordinators, assistants and coaches for their excellent organizational and planning skills.

After coming back from a long and refreshing October Break, Wells Animal Clubs hosted 鈥楢nimal Week 2023鈥 from Tuesday, October 24 to Friday, October 27, 2023. The purpose of this event was to raise awareness about animal welfare and engage with various organizations with similar causes. Numerous events during Animal Week allowed Wells students to be energized and excited to come back on campus.听

On Tuesday, October 24th, Love Ocean Life (LOL), a club dedicated to supporting ocean life, took the initiative for the start of an amazing week. LOL welcomed an online guest speaker, Mr. Brendon Sing, from Shark Guardian. Shark Guardian is a UK-based charity with the aim to advance the conservation of sharks and the natural environment through research, conservation, and education. Some of the LOL club members got in touch with Shark Guardian during the ServICE Conference 2023 held at NIST International School. LOL club members and Grade 1 students enjoyed an informative and fascinating presentation from Mr. Brendon. Students learned about the endangerment of sharks, what is causing it, and what we can do to provide a safer environment for sharks to live in. Thank you, Shark Guardian and Mr. Brendon for your time and an enriching session!聽

On Wednesday, October 25th, K9 Wells continued the momentum of excitement. K9 is a club at 扣扣传媒 dedicated to raising awareness and providing care for street dogs. K9鈥檚 collaborating organization is CHSA Thai Stray Animal Shelter, a shelter providing care for various stray animals, especially dogs. K9 welcomed Bahloo, one of our dog-loving teacher Mr. Chase鈥檚 dog, who was adopted from CHSA Thai Stray Animal Shelter. Bahloo captured every students’ and teachers鈥 attention with her friendly personality and adorable looks! Thank you, Bahloo, for easing and relaxing our minds during the busy week! On top of that, K9 hosted a booth selling nachos during the school day as a fundraiser. Students and teachers enjoyed a special mid-day snack!聽

On Thursday, October 26th, Wells Helping PAWS participated in Animal Week as a fantastic opportunity to promote the welfare of cats. PAWS鈥 primary objective is to support and enlighten the community in Wells about stray cats. The collaborating organization is PAWS Bangkok, a non-profit organization that offers vital healthcare to stray and community animals. To achieve the goal of raising awareness and funds, PAWS organized interactive activities and merchandise sales. Primary school students were encouraged to enjoy a little game of 鈥淧in the Tail鈥, in which they won a cat sticker for a prize. The newly established PAWS Middle School Team also organized the game of Cup Pong for middle school students to enjoy. Alongside the fun activities, merchandise selling took place during primary, middle, and high school lunch times. PAWS offered special hand-made cookies, hand-made keychains, hand-made bracelets from PAWS MS Team, cat keychains, and many more!聽

Friday, October 27th was the last but most exciting day of Animal Week. All 3 animal clubs hosted booths to wrap up Animal Week during primary, middle, and high school lunchtime! LOL provided a special photo opportunity with a shark mascot, along with selling home-baked brownies and hand-made keychains. K9 had a special and delicious marshmallow treat sale. PAWS continued with cup pong and pin the tail games, as well as selling merchandise such as stickers and keychains.听

Throughout the week and the week after, donation boxes for each cause (LOL’s Shark Guardian, K9’s CHSA Stray Animal Shelter, and PAWS’ PAWS Bangkok) were placed in the lobby. In addition, a donation box for Thailand Animal Shelter (TAS), an organization that a Wells alumni, Sami Soni (Class of 2017), has initiated, was placed in the lobby. In the end, the total donations of about 3500 baht were received for all 4 causes combined. Thank you so much to everyone in the Wells community for your support!聽

All the support from the community through the fundraising booths, activities, and donation boxes is truly appreciated and meaningful for all animals in need. Animal Week offered the community the ability to enhance the well-being of animals while also instilling values of respect and commitment. The ultimate goal for all animal-dedicated clubs and organizations is to ensure that stray and community animals have access to sufficient food and shelter and to create a safer environment for them. Animal Week also showed how collaborating with various clubs and organizations with similar causes can promote a lot more than a single club can do. A shoutout to all animal club members, leaders, and advisors who contributed to and played a vital role in making this event a successful and meaningful one! Wells animal clubs, Love Ocean Life, K9 Wells, and Wells Helping PAWS, will continue to emphasize and spread awareness about the importance of protecting all animals in need.听聽

The ServICE conference is a collaborative, student-led event organized by international schools in Bangkok. The aim of the conference is to inspire, connect and empower students to take appropriate and effective service action to benefit their communities and the environment.

ServICE Conference

The conference provides students with opportunities to share and learn from each other about experiences and successful projects engaging with service learning in their respective schools and communities. The conference provides a stage for various adult and student keynote speakers to share their passions, 鈥淗ow-To鈥 sessions for students wishing to teach others based on their experiences, and networking opportunities to learn from NGOs sharing聽 projects across Thailand. Students are also given the opportunity to collaborate and plan future student-led inter-school service learning projects.

ServICE Conference

During the conference, students listened to various keynote speakers, engaged in icebreaker activities and games, attended How-To workshops on topics of interest, and collaborated in discussions with students from other schools.

ServICE Conference

Two of our student leaders in our American Sign Language (ASL) Club, Risa Takahashi and LiHan Sun (Class of 2024) led a How-To workshop to spread awareness about ASL, talk about their club mission and accomplishments, and teach participants the alphabet.

ServICE Conference

All of the students left the conference feeling enthusiastic and inspired. It was refreshing to interact and collaborate with peers from other schools. Wells would like to thank International School of Bangkok (ISB) for their exceptional job in hosting the first in-person extracurricular event in a long time, as well as the teacher advisors for their engagement and support with this event.听

Congratulations, Class of 2021, YOU DID IT!!!

The seniors recently had their final CAS interviews, where they reflected on their personal development throughout their CAS journeys, whether it was strengths they developed, challenges they faced and overcame, comfort zones they stepped out of, or confidence they gained through public speaking, extra-curricular, or leadership opportunities. The thoughtfulness of their reflections indicates a great deal of maturity and insight into the leaders and global citizens they have become during high school, and the future potential they hold.听

Despite the challenge of engaging in extracurricular activities during the Covid-19 pandemic, this class demonstrated both adaptability and resilience, and found creative ways to continue developing their skills through CAS safely at home. These students have developed in their own unique ways and gained a better understanding of themselves, as well as clearer visions of their future pathways. As a collective, they have accomplished a great deal in terms of their extracurricular activities and experiences throughout middle and high school. They have seized the opportunities provided in and out of school, and flourished from stepping outside of their comfort zones in numerous ways. They have certainly gained useful skills and important lessons which will greatly benefit them in the future.
