On February 23rd, 2024, Thai Club paid a visit to the Santisuk Day Care Center. This nursery school, operating in Chalongkrung, currently has up to 200 students attending. The visit was a heartwarming and enriching experience, as we were able to plan activities with the children and contribute essential supplies to support the school, including milk, snacks, and various kitchen essentials. The appreciation from the teachers and students there were palpable and filled the atmosphere with joy.Santisuk Day Care Center

The day at Santisuk began with an opening ceremony followed by four engaging activities planned by the Thai Club. There were 66 students present that morning, ranging from Kindergarten 1-3, and they were divided by class into 3 groups in circles. The activities were as follows: bag painting which allowed the children to unleash their creativity onto plain canvas bags, jigsaw puzzles that encouraged problem-solving and technical skills among the children, and lastly, the color scratching and origami activities entertained motor skills and interactive learning environments.

On the 20th of January, a group of Wells students under the Red Cross CAS Project went to the Saphan Sung District Office for their annual Children’s Day event. The children at the Saphan Sung Youth Center showcased multiple beautiful performances for all to see. During their time there, the students hosted and organized stalls, along with activities for the children to engage in and win prizes. The students hosted a total of four booths: ping pong fiesta, ball throwing, lucky draw egg, and a honey-lemon and yuzu tea stall. As these games bring joy and pleasure to the children from receiving presents, they also promote motor and spatial skills which are critical to a child’s development.

The celebration of Children’s Day is very important as it serves to celebrate and recognize the unique qualities, innocence, and potential in all children. This day not only highlights the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment for children but also emphasizes the well-being of the younger generation. It provides an opportunity to promote awareness of ensuring the health, education, and overall development of children worldwide. We take a step into the community to support local children’s wellness by bringing in fun activities and rewards for them. Unused toys and rewards were also donated from various sources and houses to bring joy to local children. Snacks and stationeries were bought from the funding that the members collectively helped raised during Well’s Winter Show event by selling cookies, s’mores, and more.

Other than spreading happiness on Children’s Day, our students were also able to gain a valuable experience. They learned about working collaboratively as there were four booths and one drink stand to manage with over 300 children registered, not including parents. They also learned to be compassionate and sympathetic since we were working with children who came from multiple family backgrounds and ranges in personality. They also learned about resource management, whether it would be financial, people, or objects which required detailed planning and vision. This made them appreciate the unity and the ability we have to bring positive change to the community together.

Learning Adobe Photoshop is quite scary to many since it is a “big software and intimidating”. It is the main choice by the “pros” out there for professional image editing.

But some of our brave students from Wells On Nut proved that Photoshop can be conquered even by the grade level they are in now, which is middle school . They are happy to share some of their work here.

ICT

Under the guidance of their dedicated teacher, Mr. Jess, the students delved into the basics of what Photoshop can offer for beginners. Each one-hour session was a fun, hands-on discovery of basic Photoshop tools that can turn keen creatives from nobodies to conquerors.

The following skills were learned and applied to their digital artworks:

  • Using selection tools to seamlessly cut the edges of a text or image
  • Using the adjustment layers to alter colors, lights, and shadows
  • Using Layer masking to hide or show part of the image
  • Choosing the right font styles and combinations
  • Applying gradient colors for background or texts
  • Using blend modes to mix elements for an overall desired look

With every passing session, the students’ confidence in conquering Photoshop and their proficiency grew as evident in the output below.

ICT

From movie posters, Halloween-themed graphics that sent shivers down the spine, and banners for travel guides that beckoned wanderlust—they explored a diverse array of projects, each showcasing their evolving ability of Photoshop’s myriad features.

ICT

ICT

The skills learned from this after-school class are not only meant for Photoshop but can also be applied with other graphic designing software such as Pixlr, GIMP, or Canva. When you learn or conquer Photoshop you are ready to use any image editing software out there.

ICT

ICT

Our middle school students are just starting. There are more cool projects waiting to be discovered. They started from nothing but now are conquerors! You can be like them, too.

ICT

Conquering Adobe Photoshop after-school class will continue for another term. Don’t miss this opportunity. If you are interested, be sure to contact Wells On Nut school office.

This past Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, the ۿ۴ý students from Chonburi and On Nut participated in an intensive cross-campus choir boot camp. Thirty middle and high school choir students joined together at the Wells International Chonburi campus to practice new songs for upcoming performances.

Choir Bootcamp

The students from the On Nut and Chonburi campuses had a jam-packed day filled with voice practices to develop their breathing, use of their diaphragm, and posture. After the warm-ups and practice, the students divided into groups to practice the different parts of a choir, such as soprano, alto, and tenors. The choir directors broke the students into groups to practice the melodies and harmonies before joining up to rehearse as a whole group.

Choir Bootcamp

However, the students had some time to relax and play games after lunch. They played team sports such as pickleball and badminton. The students who preferred to watch and cheer were lounging comfortably on the beanbags. After relaxing and socializing, the students and teachers assembled in the new auditorium for a grand finale practice. They were the first group to stand on the brand new stage and sing together.

Choir Bootcamp

The choir boot camp was a special day where our students from the two campuses could connect and share ideas through their passions of music and singing. The highlight of the day was to see how our students made new friends and learned valuable lessons to develop their singing skills. We hope to have many more inter-school collaborations such as this.

On Sunday, December 12th, 2021, our Wells MUN team hosted our first virtual, and 6th Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, WISMUN VI. In these times where we are still living with the pandemic, we wanted to provide the opportunity for our MUN students to practice their skills and collaborate with students from other international schools in a virtual environment.

WISMUN VI

Opening Ceremony

In the opening ceremony, we had the honor of having a great role model as our keynote speaker. Ploy is a diplomat in the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs who is currently reading a postgraduate degree in international law at the University of Oxford. Her responsibilities include drugs and crime issues under the purview of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. She was an avid MUN debater in high school. After graduating from Ruamrudee International School in 2017, she has gone on to study her first degree in law at Queen Mary, University of London on a full scholarship from the Thai government and partial scholarships from the university. During her time in London, she has held various leadership and debating roles. In her free time, she writes articles on legal and foreign affairs. As a former MUN member, Ploy served as a great model for our MUN participants aspiring for a future career in diplomacy, or international relations or law.

WISMUN VI

Collaboration in Committees

There were four main committees held in the conference: United Nations Human Rights Council (UNRC), UN4MUN, World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). UNHRC focused on discussing the question of dealing with Hindu-Muslim disputes in South Asia, whereas UN4MUN explored the question of improving rights for indigenous communities in Africa. In the WHO, delegates focused on the question of operating a mental health action plan: the promotion of care and treatment. And finally, UNESCO delegates examined the question of ensuring quality education and increasing accessibility to e-learning for children.

WISMUN VI

Overall, the students engaged in productive collaboration, resolution making and debates on the various issues from different perspectives. There was a high level of engagement and initiative shown from delegates, and the chairs did an excellent job of facilitating the conversations and ensuring MUN protocol and standards were maintained in a virtual environment.

WISMUN VI

In the closing ceremony, the chairs shared summaries of the day’s events in their committees and commended great performance by awarding best delegates and overall best chairs, as well as some fun superlatives. The following awards were presented:

WISMUN VI

Best Chair: Shovit Dhakal from EIS (UN4MUN)

Best Chair Honorable Mention: Aaditi Bhandari from NIST (UN4MUN)

WISMUN VI

UNHRC

Best Delegate: Natthawit Kokirdpanich, Delegate of India (IPS)

Honorable Mention: Alexis Jade Melocontones, Delegate of Nepal (IPS)

Although we never expected we would be at home one year later, our Grade 11 (Class of 2022) students made the most of this opportunity and engaged in our second Since they were all at home practicing social distancing, this would have typically posed a challenge for them in terms of engaging in CAS. But instead, our students seized opportunities to engage in creativity, activity and service! As this is the mindset we hope to cultivate in all of our students, this is proof that our students aim to do their part as global citizens – even from the comfort of their own homes!

Students were also able to find the silver linings in this situation, whether it was quality time spent with family or exploring interests they never had the time to during the school year. Read about their experiences from some of their shared reflections.

CREATIVITY

Having extra time and less resources than usual sparked a lot of great creativity, or time the students finally had to pursue some passion projects. It seems like a favorite creative outlet for our students was baking and cooking!

Miho , while Nikhita made an assortment of baked goods, including a coconut cake and banana bread. Not only did she enjoy the experience, but she was able to develop her skills: “I found the experience very fun, and I was fascinated as I didn’t know I had the ability to make bread. The experience was overall fun, but also a struggle. When first trying out new recipes, it didn’t go as well, and definitely didn’t turn out perfect. However, I kept on trying and switching up the measurements and recipe, until I got it to my liking. By the end, I was happy that I discovered how to make new things, and was able to share some with my family and friends.”

CAS at Home Challenge 2021

Nimaan learned how to cook spaghetti and also , one of his favorite desserts, and was able to learn some important skills from the experience: “It helped me enhance other skills such as patience and adding the right amount of each ingredient. I had to use my patience while waiting for the brownies while it is in the oven. I had to put in effort when mixing the different ingredients together in the bowl and it showed me that cooking takes time and effort for the food to come out just right”.

CAS at Home Challenge 2021

Risa , shiratama dango, at home. “I think involving my own culture is very important. I want to spread the qualities of Japanese food abroad. To do that, I study more about Japanese food.”Uday also created an artistic Japanese dish, pictured below.

CAS at Home Challenge 2021

We also have many talented artists, who used the time at home to develop their artistic abilities. Andy, for example, created an Instagram page for his webtoon comic drawings and Charvi

CAS at Home Challenge 2021

CAS at Home Challenge 2021

Jiwon. This is a great example of Creativity for CAS and an easy project that anyone can do at home!

Hanny developed her photo editing skills and interest in learning interesting and aesthetic vocabulary words. She used photoshop to combine photographs with different fonts of the words and their definitions. “I think this challenge has helped me improve my online skills and encouraged me to learn new things instead of just sitting around doing nothing all day”.

CAS at Home Challenge 2021

We have some musicians in the mix like Eric, who fine tuned his guitar skills and Dave, who learned how to play the acoustic guitar by watching YouTube tutorials to learn chords and songs. “Not only is it very entertaining but learning guitar has allowed me to express myself in different ways and to express my creativity. Learning drums has taught me about rhythm, while learning guitar has made me learn about melody and harmony”.

CAS at Home Challenge 2021

CAS at Home Challenge 2021

Shreeya challenged herself by learning difficult songs on the piano, including Elton John’s ‘Rocketman’ and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, both of which can be heard She also tried improvising and writing her own notes. She was able to demonstrate growth through this experience: In my opinion, it’s gotten much easier to read notes and improvise. Although the notes and rhythms are quite challenging and confusing, I can now play the song with no struggle. This proves that overtime, things will improve and there’s always room for growth”.

Tommy created an Instagram gaming channel and as part of his CAS project, Joshua created an Instagram account to discuss big news and issues happening in Korea.“The purpose of this project is to spread awareness of what is happening in Korea without any type of media and political bias…So far, it has helped me a lot to practice my translating skills but also my skills to find more accurate information through research.”

Irfan did , and using the equipment he had. “I worked out every single day to keep myself healthy. At first, it was tough like the next day when I woke up, my muscle was hurting but then after doing it for a while, I got used to it. I have learned so much from working out at home trying different workouts from Youtube and get to know more information about my body as the video that I watch on Youtube tells me which workout helps with which part in my body.”Winnie also worked out at home and while also developing his video editing skills!

Shiva . “Obtaining a nice physique and good body strength is something that is not very easy and it took me a lot of mental fortitude and persistence to be able to complete this challenge.” Sang also saw the benefits of engaging in physical activity: “I felt that I was becoming too lazy at that time because my activity was a bit restricted so I thought what i could do to make myself more active and I chose to work out at home for my own health and to be more active”.

SERVICE

Wells students aimed to serve others during this time of need. Given the current pandemic situation in India, a group of our Grade 11 students decided to take action and find a way to provide service during this time of crisis. As their CAS project, Shreyaa, Shreeya, Cristine, and So Yoon collaborated with Earth Cafe in Mumbai, India to raise funds to support its efforts to deliver food to elderly citizens, who have been adversely affected, during the pandemic.

The students set up a Facebook page for this, calling their initiative ‘We Care’:

Donations can be made through the following website:

As the oldest child in her family, Kaede helped her mom with household chores by creating a weekly housework schedule, which she put on the refrigerator along with her school schedule. During her free blocks, she would do her chores. “My mom appreciates my help so much, and I am also glad that I can support her like this at home since I know that the number of housework increased on a great scale”.

In an effort to spread kindness, So Yoon sent a letter to the elderly through the project, a non-profit organization aiming to reach isolated elderly people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through letter-writing.

During the last week of school (December 11 – 15), the High School community piloted Wells Without Walls (WWW), a week dedicated to learning in various shapes and forms, inside and outside the school walls. A student-centered initiative, students and teachers played a large role in organizing the event and tailoring it to the needs and vision of the high school student body. WWW aimed to provide students with academic, CAS/co-curricular, experiential and service learning opportunities through student and teacher-led workshops, IB Core sessions, life skills courses, action planning meetings, and service learning. Underlying these opportunities is the empowerment of our students and teachers as change-agents and leaders as they explore and showcase their various passions, skills, and talents, through collaboration and teamwork.

Workshop topics included cooking, sewing, service learning action planning, science fiction and extra-terrestrial life, “How to not procrastinate”, emotional intelligence, CAS, Extended Essay (EE), professional email writing, dance workshops, and more. Ms. Amrita’s Environmental Science classes gave presentations about their campaign to raise awareness about environmental issues, which inspired our theme for this week, ‘Every Action Counts’. Everyone in the school was encouraged to share photos of their environmentally-friendly actions on social media to help spread awareness. #EveryActionCounts #WellsWithoutWalls

Other highlights of the week included the IB Group 4 Project, FOBISIA MUN and a Grade 9 field trip to Siriraj Medical Museum. A guest speaker, who has a PhD in Psychology and over thirty years of experience as a counselor, came to share his experiences with our students. On Friday, some of our students collaborated with the maids to learn some cleaning skills and help clean the classrooms. This was real world learning and application at its finest!
