Teachers, students and staff shared in the celebration of learning and accomplishments of our Senior Class, beginning with an introduction from our emcees, Franny and Rachel, and two special performances, one singing performance by Sam and Milan, followed by an energetic dance number from our Korean Club.

The Showcase featured an exhibition of student presentations, highlighting their favorite CAS experiences and memories. Guests were encouraged to chat with the members of the Senior class about the learning and lessons they gained outside of the classroom throughout high school. Our high school service clubs also hosted booths to sell goods and raise money for their respective causes.

Finally, some of our Middle School dance teams performed, and this was followed by our annual tradition of having the Breakdance club as the showcase finale.��

Congratulations to the Class of 2024! May you continue your lifelong learning journey, developing your strengths and areas of growth, and continuing to make positive contributions to the people and communities around you.��

This past weekend from September 15th until the 17th, over 20 of Wells’ high school students attended the 13th annual ServICE Conference at NIST International School! The ServICE conference is a collaborative, largely student-led event organized by various international schools in Bangkok. The aim of the conference is to inspire, connect, and empower students to create meaningful changes within their communities and surrounding environment.

The conference provided students with opportunities to share and learn from each others’ experiences in collaboration with numerous local projects and organizations. This was achieved through various activities, such as the impassioned keynote speeches, ‘How-To’ sessions for students wishing to raise awareness about nationwide NGOs, and most memorably, the ICExperiences where students were able to gain firsthand experience with the missions of nonprofits.

On the first day of the conference, students were welcomed with a lively icebreaker, setting the tone for the day, followed by brief meet & greets from the ICExperiences. Followed by another popular event amongst students: the ICE Fair where organizations sold trinkets and were able to raise awareness and funds for their respective causes. To end the day, ‘How-To’ sessions were introduced as students made their way to the first rounds. Keynote speeches were delivered throughout the day as students reconvened in the auditorium to wind down and listen to their peers’ unique experiences.

The second day of the conference followed a similar schedule to the first day; however, it was far more hands-on as new students had familiarized themselves with the events prior. The icebreaker energized students once more as students immersed themselves within their ICExperiences for the majority of the day. Students were placed in diverse groups giving them the chance to network and mingle with other students while simultaneously supporting community organizations, including RoyRak, Shark Guardians, Rescued Glass, Bangkok Soap Opera and Love Wildlife. Needless to say, countless friendships were formed during these workshops and students were able to collaboratively engage in direct service!

The third day was the most hectic, but the most rewarding as the conference came to an end. It was truly bittersweet as our seniors rejoiced over a successful experience, but realized this would be their last conference. Needless to say, the day went by in a flash with most of the day dedicated to ‘ICE Action Planning’ to spark change for the remainder of the school year, carrying on ServICE’s legacy beyond the conference. The ICE Fair was also brought back for the second time before the closing ceremony, marking the end of the 13th conference. Students bid their newly-made friends goodbye, and promised to cherish the memories made over the past few days and continue inter-school collaboration.

Special acknowledgements to a few of our student leaders: Sana Shibuichi, Rachel Kim, Franny Pandya and Tunn Sayamipuk (Class of 2024) for leading a How-To workshop on repurposing plastic bottles to combat plastic pollution in today’s world and raise awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability.

Overall, all of our students left the conference feeling inspired and empowered. It was energizing to interact and collaborate with peers from other schools. Wells would like to thank NIST for their exceptional job hosting the conference, as well as the teacher advisors for their ongoing support with this event.

We look forward to seeing what students will do with their inspiration from the conference, and how they will continue to make a positive difference in the school and local community. We are also very excited to announce that next year’s conference will be hosted by �ۿ۴�ý at our new Chonburi campus! We look back at the 13th with fondness, and look forward to the promise of the 14th!

On Friday, May 20, our high school community gathered for a showcase and celebration of the culmination of the Class of 2022’s co-curricular learning journeys. Despite limitations resulting from the pandemic, our Class of 2022 seniors have persevered over the past few years, continuing to pursue their passions and remain committed to personal development and growth. This took various forms, including involvement in student-led clubs, athletics, extra-curricular activities, service learning, internships and virtual conferences. All of these experiences have helped them develop valuable life skills, unique talents, and a clearer vision of their future directions after graduation.

Students were also able to find the silver linings in this situation, whether it was quality time spent with family or exploring interests they never had the time to during the school year. Read about their experiences from some of their shared reflections.

CREATIVITY

Having extra time and less resources than usual sparked a lot of great creativity, or time the students finally had to pursue some passion projects. It seems like a favorite creative outlet for our students was baking and cooking!

Miho , while Nikhita made an assortment of baked goods, including a coconut cake and banana bread. Not only did she enjoy the experience, but she was able to develop her skills: “I found the experience very fun, and I was fascinated as I didn’t know I had the ability to make bread. The experience was overall fun, but also a struggle. When first trying out new recipes, it didn’t go as well, and definitely didn’t turn out perfect. However, I kept on trying and switching up the measurements and recipe, until I got it to my liking. By the end, I was happy that I discovered how to make new things, and was able to share some with my family and friends.”

Nimaan learned how to cook spaghetti and also , one of his favorite desserts, and was able to learn some important skills from the experience: “It helped me enhance other skills such as patience and adding the right amount of each ingredient. I had to use my patience while waiting for the brownies while it is in the oven. I had to put in effort when mixing the different ingredients together in the bowl and it showed me that cooking takes time and effort for the food to come out just right”.

Risa , shiratama dango, at home. “I think involving my own culture is very important.�� I want to spread the qualities of Japanese food abroad. To do that, I study more about Japanese food.”��Uday also created an artistic Japanese dish, pictured below.

We also have many talented artists, who used the time at home to develop their artistic abilities. Andy, for example, created an Instagram page for his webtoon comic drawings and Charvi ��

Jiwon��. This is a great example of Creativity for CAS and an easy project that anyone can do at home!

Hanny developed her photo editing skills and interest in learning interesting and aesthetic vocabulary words. She used photoshop to combine photographs with different fonts of the words and their definitions. “I think this challenge has helped me improve my online skills and encouraged me to learn new things instead of just sitting around doing nothing all day”.

We have some musicians in the mix like Eric, who fine tuned his guitar skills and Dave, who learned how to play the acoustic guitar by watching YouTube tutorials to learn chords and songs. “Not only is it very entertaining but learning guitar has allowed me to express myself in different ways and to express my creativity. Learning drums has taught me about rhythm, while learning guitar has made me learn about melody and harmony”.

Shreeya challenged herself by learning difficult songs on the piano, including Elton John’s ‘Rocketman’ and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, both of which can be heard She also tried improvising and writing her own notes. She was able to demonstrate growth through this experience: “In my opinion, it’s gotten much easier to read notes and improvise. Although the notes and rhythms are quite challenging and confusing, I can now play the song with no struggle. This proves that overtime, things will improve and there’s always room for growth”.

Tommy created an Instagram gaming channel and as part of his CAS project, Joshua created an Instagram account to discuss big news and issues happening in Korea.��“The purpose of this project is to spread awareness of what is happening in Korea without any type of media and political bias…So far, it has helped me a lot to practice my translating skills but also my skills to find more accurate information through research.”

Maya learned in 7 minutes! Meanwhile, James was creative at home with his father, and they “From this experience, I was able to improve my designing and planning skills”.

ACTIVITY

Wells students made sure to take good care of not only their minds, but their bodies as well. Many of our students, like Kendrick, developed fitness plans for themselves and tried their best to follow them.

Irfan did , and using the equipment he had. “I worked out every single day to keep myself healthy. At first, it was tough like the next day when I woke up, my muscle was hurting but then after doing it for a while, I got used to it. I have learned so much from working out at home trying different workouts from Youtube and get to know more information about my body as the video that I watch on Youtube tells me which workout helps with which part in my body.”��Winnie also worked out at home and while also developing his video editing skills!

Shiva . “Obtaining a nice physique and good body strength is something that is not very easy and it took me a lot of mental fortitude and persistence to be able to complete this challenge.” Sang also saw the benefits of engaging in physical activity: “I felt that I was becoming too lazy at that time because my activity was a bit restricted so I thought what i could do to make myself more active and I chose to work out at home for my own health and to be more active”.

SERVICE

Wells students aimed to serve others during this time of need. Given the current pandemic situation in India, a group of our Grade 11 students decided to take action and find a way to provide service during this time of crisis. As their CAS project, Shreyaa, Shreeya, Cristine, and So Yoon collaborated with Earth Cafe in Mumbai, India to raise funds to support its efforts to deliver food to elderly citizens, who have been adversely affected, during the pandemic.

As the oldest child in her family, Kaede helped her mom with household chores by creating a weekly housework schedule, which she put on the refrigerator along with her school schedule. During her free blocks, she would do her chores. “My mom appreciates my help so much, and I am also glad that I can support her like this at home since I know that the number of housework increased on a great scale”.��

In an effort to spread kindness, So Yoon sent a letter to the elderly through the project, a non-profit organization aiming to reach isolated elderly people impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through letter-writing.��

The seniors recently had their final CAS interviews, where they reflected on their self-development throughout their CAS journeys, whether it was strengths they developed, challenges they faced and overcame, comfort zones they stepped out of, or confidence they gained through leadership, achievements, or specific skills. The thoughtfulness of their reflections indicates a great deal of growth, maturity and insight into the leaders and global citizens they have become during high school, and the future potential they have.��

They have all developed in their own unique ways, and gained a better understanding of themselves, and a clear vision of where they want to direct their lives moving forward. As a collective, they have accomplished quite a lot in terms of their extracurricular activities and experiences throughout middle and high school. If it is any indication of their future pathways, the future is already looking brighter!

Thank you to all of the family members, administrators, teachers, staff and school community who have supported, encouraged and inspired the Class of 2020 to step out of their comfort zones, take risks, and grow as young, unique individuals.

Over the Songkran break, our Grade 11 & 12 students were given a Since they were all at home practicing social distancing during this Covid-19 quarantine time, this would have typically posed a challenge for them in terms of engaging in CAS. But, instead, our students seized opportunities to engage in creativity, activity and service! As this is the mindset we hope to cultivate in all of our students, this is proof that our students aim to do their part as global citizens — even from the comfort of their own homes!��

“I tried to cook by myself based on recipes from the internet. I think I am enjoying this moment as it feels like I’m the genuine one who’s participating in social distancing. By learning something new that people haven’t tried before helps them to get rid of boredom during quarantine.” -Kevin (Class of 2020)

“I was bored at home so I decided to learn how to cook and since I love cookies I decided to bake them. This could be very important as when I go to university I can make them by myself.” -Mokshil (Class of 2002)

“I’ve been seeing this time as a great way to do the things that I’ve always wanted to do, but never got the time to do. I have learnt that retrying something only makes you better and when you keep trying, it becomes even better…I learnt how to find the positive in everything and be grateful for everything we get, because there’s always something positive that can be done from the worst times.” -Muskan (Class of 2021)��

Some students used their hands and the resources at their disposal to be creative…

“I created the board game “catan” by using cardboard and Origami. Catan is a very famous game to play, but I didn’t have it. So, I just created to enjoy time at home with my little brother and families.” -Haruna (Class of 2020)

Others refined their computer skills and created through software editing, digital design, 3D modeling, making music, etc. Others used technology to connect with others or to learn new skills. Here are some examples of our talented students and their products or learning from their computers:

“I spent time self-learning 3D modeling, it is not easy to learn but it gives me quality time and I am happy that I can learn a new skill during quarantine than waste my time. It gives me a sense of accomplishment when I figure something out and figure out my mistakes.” -Bowen (Class of 2021)

“I got the chance to participate in an amazing and extremely enriching conference hosted by the JUMP! Foundation. We all got a chance to discuss various insightful topics such as self value, leadership, effective global citizenship, etc. It allowed me to spend my time being productive and inspiring myself, but also make new friends who are like minded while staying at home!” -Soumili (Class of 2021)

“One thing that I was doing was creating digital art and making Tik Tok . I found it was an interesting way of spending my time, as well as boosting my creativity. I enjoy coming up with things that are unique, interesting, and creative. Such activities help me to focus on that and overcome the challenges that I encounter by sharpening my problem-solving skills.” -Anton (Class of 2020)

“Soon, I will be entering university (be it virtual or actual) in hopefully the US. US universities are relatively expensive for internationals like me. Therefore, I see stock trading as a secondary source of income that I can use on my expenses in university so I can help my parents pay off my education. I hope that by 2026, I am able to cover the entire cost of education my parents spend on me. That is the goal.” -Yash (Class of 2020)

“Quarantine does have a positive impact on people allowing them not only to make them do things but engage with themselves and spend more time with themselves and their family. Having to spend more time with my family, talking about our lives, playing indoor games made us really bond and made me happy at the same time.” -Gurleen (Class of 2021)

“The first thing that comes to mind which I have done is have more time for my family. I have spent much more time talking and playing board games with them. I don’t usually do that so I would consider it as a positive contribution to myself and my family.” -Akhrin (Class of 2020)

ACTIVITY

Wells students made sure sure to take good care of not only their minds, but their bodies as well…

“I decided to take this crisis as an opportunity to get back on the workouts I’ve missed as an IB Diploma student…I committed this time of period to regain my healthy habit of sparing time for workouts on a regular basis as I have relatively more free time these days.” -Su (Class of 2020)

“I did 30 minutes of cardio every single day for 2-weeks by following a video from The Body Project + Core Workout + 20 minutes of dance. I have also been learning new dance choreographies and styles every single day and hope to make it a daily routine ritual.” -Khushi (Class of 2020)

“Running around outside the park to keep my body healthy and muscle moving everyday. Of course, we won’t just run without a mask, and we had to keep 1m away from other runners like us at a social distance.” -Gordon (Class of 2021)

“I decided to do some activities at home so that I can also stay in shape and be fit. Once a week, as a family we go out and do fitness training. I am the coach of the fitness training, in this training we have different sections of exercising techniques.” -Toni (Class of 2020)

“I chose to walk up the stairs in the condo. I went up all the stairs from the 4th floor (lowest) to 25th floor (highest) and took the elevator down. Even if I want to give up in the middle of the workout time, I am not able to open the door except for the 4th floor and 25th floor. Therefore, I could force myself to go up all the stairs to the 25th floor. I repeated this three times a day for 7 days, and I’m planning to continue this activity!”��-Annie (Class of 2020)

SERVICE

Some students were creative in thinking about how they could be helpful to others from a safe distance…

“I made more than 100 face shields to distribute to health care workers and essential employees.” -Renesa (Class of 2021)

“I was engaged in many different activities very recently including volunteering in the movement…I had a lot of fun with the rest of my family finding time to participate in a variety of activities, mostly cooking as we stayed home the entire break.”��-Peter (Class of 2021) ��

“I found a website (), which donates 10 grains of rice for every question you get right. I donated 1000 grains today.” -Ananta (Class of 2020)

“I am currently involved in inter school collaboration Online Panel discussion about COVID-19’s effect on the environment. A group of students from different schools are together to bring people with keen interest in learning more about sustainability, in both micro (household) and macro perspective on how COVID19 might have changed the way sustainability issues are viewed moving forward through a series of webinars.” -Ruby (Class of 2020)

Some of the senior girls also did a Tik Tok dance compilation. This was followed by a CAS montage video, highlighting some of the favorite CAS experiences, made by Parina Pantari.

Finally, there was a high-demand performance by the Breakdance club, which was a collaboration of teachers and high school students of different grade levels. Ari Haszlan performed a guitar song by Edward Sheeran that she has developed as one of her Creativity experiences.

Overall, the CAS Showcase was an uplifting experience to bring joy and celebration to the school atmosphere in these difficult times.
