On Wednesday, December 13th, we had our annual Christmas Show, “Christmas Festival 2017”, for the primary, middle, and high school community. Here are some of the photo highlights that captured the wonderful performances and Christmas spirit in our students!

Christmas Brings Wonders to Thong Lor

Christmas is a magical time for children, bringing visions of gifts, games, and time spent with family and friends. Seeking to capture some of that magic, our Thong Lor campus launched its annual Christmas show with a few surprises, and our “Winter Wonderland” extravaganza thankfully captured the imaginations of our students and parents. Teachers and students worked hard in order to create a memorable show for our parents, filled with a variety of performances featuring our Nursery to Grade 2 classes. Among the featured acts were dances, songs, and a skit about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which was brilliantly performed by our grade 2 students. Spreading the Christmas cheer beyond the usual images of the cold snow, the children shimmied and shook to the tunes of Disney movies and wore dazzling costumes that ranged from hula dancers to birds, sea creatures, ballroom dancers and even Mickey Mouse. Even the parents showed their knowledge about children’s songs during the parent activity in which Ms. Kh-Kha, our music teacher, played nursery rhymes and our parents took guesses at the titles of the songs. The Thong Lor teachers even made an appearance on stage, surprising the students and parents with the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas” with a twist. Not be left out, Santa Claus closed the festival when he appeared on the back of a motorbike, distributing gifts to the excited students!

We would like to thank Mr. Chang and Ms. Lee for their generosity with the gifts for all the students, and most of all thank all, to the parents and relatives who came to support us during the show. It was wonderful to see a sea of supporters sporting the white and blue colors represented in the show’s theme, and capped a successful end to 2011. We hope to produce an even better show at our next Christmas show in 2012. Thank you, and have a happy 2012!

Wells Presents More than B2 Million in Awards and Scholarships

In the spirit of Christmas, and in what has become an annual tradition, cash awards and scholarships valued at more than B2 million were presented to deserving secondary students at the recent Wells Christmas Extravaganza held on the evening of Thursday, December 16. Twenty-five students from grades 6 to 12 were presented with Certificates of Achievement by members of the School Board of Directors, including Mr. Chang Yao-Lang (Chairman), Ms. Lee Mei-Chuan (Vice-Chair), Mr. Lin Yao-Tang, and Mr. Hou You-Wen.

Wells’ academic scholarships are awarded in tiers, with Wells Super Scholars achieving the highest tier. Super Scholars receive tuition waivers ranging from B35,000 per semester for middle school recipients, to B45,000 per semester for high school recipients for the next two semesters. Super Scholars are selected on the basis of outstanding performance in the classroom, with a GPA in core subjects of 3.50 or higher, along with exceptionally high scores in most (and in some cases, ALL) tested areas of the recent SAT10 administered at the end of the previous academic year. This year’s Super Scholars are:

Also receiving scholarships were a second group of high achievers, the Wells Scholars. These students had attained a GPA of at least 3.5 in core subjects along with outstanding scores in at least six (6) different areas of the most recent SAT10. Wells Scholars receive tuition waivers of B20,000 per semester for the next two semesters.

With an unprecedented number of league and tournament championships, several Wells athletes also received recognition from the School Board. Wells’ 2010 Fall Sports MVP Awards of B15,000 were presented to Kanwara “Kanny” Smith (U15s Girls Basketball & JV Girls Volleyball), and Yueh Ting “Kevin” Han (U15s Boys Basketball & JV Boys Volleyball). Outstanding Athletic Achievement Awards of B10,000 were presented to Jim Kao (Senior Boys Basketball & JV Boys Volleyball), Joon Young Lee (Senior Boys Basketball & JV Boys Volleyball), Tanapon “Boss” Phuripichet (Senior Boys Basketball), and Methaporn “May” Supa-Anan (Senior Girls Basketball).

And to top off the evening, Professional Achievement Awards were presented to four (4) teachers for the role they had played in leading Wells teams to various championships, or recognition in national and international competitions. Teachers recognized were:

Mr. PJ Castillo (Basketball Championships – U15 Girls, Senior Girls, Senior Boys)
Mr. Rhys Griffith (1^st Place Teams – Reader’s Theatre Competition)

Wells Awards over B1.1 Million in Scholarships for 2010

On Nut – �ۿ۴�ý continues to recognize outstanding academic achievement by rewarding it top students with scholarships totaling over B 1.1 million for the spring and fall semesters of 2010. Scholarship recipients were recently announced at the Wells 2009 Christmas Gala held the evening of Thursday, December 17.

In order to qualify for Wells scholarships, secondary students are first screened based on externally administered, norm-referenced tests such as the SAT10 or the ITBS (for transfer students). Final decisions are then made based on performance in the classroom (GPA), contributions to the school community and character assessments.

This year, Wells awarded scholarships to two groups of students: the Wells Scholars (B20,000/semester) and the Wells Super Scholars (B35,000/semester for Middle School, B45,000/semester for High School).

In addition to the scholarships, two cash awards of B15,000 were presented to the 2009 Fall Sports MVPs. Selections for these awards were made based on a player’s contribution to the success of his/her team, as well as sound academic performance and school service. For the 2009 Female MVP, senior basketball player Ping “Kieren” Wu Yeh (Class of 2010) has been leading her team for the past two years. Similarly, the 2009 Male MVP, Yueh Ting “Kevin” Han (Class of 2014) has led his team to two consecutive TISAC championships. In both cases, the MVPs played key roles in Wells’ emergence as a major power in TISAC sports in just its second year as a member school.
