In these past few weeks, our students have not only adjusted to their new classes but have also formed meaningful connections with their peers and teachers. These connections are the heart and soul of our school community, fostering an environment of support and friendship. During the first few weeks of school, our students created 鈥淓ssential Agreements鈥� which serve to establish a set of expectations for everyone in the class and school. During our primary assembly, the older students helped guide their younger peers through a discussion about our needs and responsibilities. The students also shared how teachers and staff can make our school even better for them this year. Some ideas they shared include making space for soccer, giving students more time to eat snacks and lunch. Others mentioned the books they want for the library. This feedback is valuable and helps us grow as a collaborative community.聽

We extend our appreciation to all the parents who joined our Parent Orientation on campus. Parent involvement has helped shape Wells Bang Na in many positive ways, affirming the work of teachers and encouraging our students to share their learning and progress with their family members. During our 鈥渕eet the teacher鈥� time, some classes has student-led presentations, allowing our primary students to give the typical back to school information directly to their parents. In Grade 4, the students explained our SEL program to parents. In Grade 5, they expressed their growth and goals for the upcoming year. The kindergarten students were simply overjoyed to see parents and grandparents in their classrooms!

As our journey of learning continues to unfold, we will continue to make home connections a significant part of our school culture.聽

The Back to school season is always an exciting time for students and teachers. Our students were happy to return to school, especially to meet their new teachers and friends. The first two weeks back went by fast. The students in primary classes worked on establishing essential agreements or codes of conduct that every student wanted to see from themselves and others. In the early years’ classes, students got to get to know each other, share their interests, and help decorate the classroom. By the third and fourth week of school, exciting learning experiences were underway, with each class unpacking their first unit of inquiry.聽

Wells Bang Na welcomed parents to visit the homeroom classes towards the end of August.
These visits were surprisingly exciting for our students. The upper primary students decided they would be the tour guides and managers, introducing their parents to teachers. The K3 students wanted to show off their learning centers and classroom organization systems. Our students were eager to introduce their friends to their moms and dads, strengthening the school and home connections and relationships. Families are an integral part of the support for our school, and we will continue to welcome their participation in event planning and whole-school initiatives throughout the year.聽

Our teachers are looking forward to an eventful year of learning. Seeing the happiness and enthusiasm of our students during this first month has breathed new life into our classrooms. We are so fortunate to have such a dynamic group of students that will continue to collaborate with teachers in positively shaping this school year and the campus environment.

After many months of online learning, students from all campuses have been able to rejoin their friends and teachers for some classes on school grounds. The students of Bang Na campus were enthusiastic yet cautious as they returned to face to face learning. Even the kindergarten students demonstrated a sense of responsibility as they entered school carefully, cleaning their hands and maintaining social distance at all times. One of the best aspects of seeing students face to face was listening to them describe their experiences with online learning.聽

When talking to the Grade three students, they mentioned that it felt good to be back with their friends. Arush said 鈥楤eing back to school is fun because I can talk to my friends and play with them, not just see them on a screen鈥�. His classmate Baiyun commented that 鈥淟earning on the computer was kind of boring. It鈥檚 fun to see my teacher at school鈥�. Their friend Eric mentioned that 鈥淟earning online feels like a video of people talking to me. It鈥檚 not always bad, but sometimes it is lonely to learn from home鈥�.

The Grade 1 students were clearly relieved to be back, but they also reflected on the positive experiences they had online. 鈥淚t鈥檚 kind of the same for me. I still get to see my friends and my teacher鈥�, Jiel shared. His classmates agreed that school online was better than no school at all. Karn mentioned the biggest challenge for her during online learning was running out of time when you still wanted to see your friends.

Overall, the students seem to be in favor of some time to see each other face to face. Jihoo from Grade 2 said 鈥淚 feel great being at school. We can play together in real life! At school you still have to be careful and keep your distance, but you can hear everyone talk in a group and they don鈥檛 get distracted鈥�. Piper, who is also in Grade 2, explained 鈥淎t home I had to sit in a chair all day and just look at a screen. It鈥檚 very good to be at school. I鈥檓 only 5% scared of covid because I know how to protect myself鈥�.

The students鈥� happiness for face to face school is definitely shared by their teacher!聽
