The 2010 TISAC Football Season started this week with the Wells Seahawks putting on a respectable show, posting 3 strong wins versus 3 losses.

On Monday, the youngest Seahawks were all victorious with our Under-9 team beating Ascot International School 4-0. Continuing the rout over Ascot was our Under 11s team with a lopsided score of 7-2. Both teams played at Wells’ new home field at the Piyarom Sports Complex.

A bit of a pleasant surprise came on Tuesday as our Under 13 Boys visited KIS International School. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Seahawks stormed back in the second half to win 3-1.

In other games, the Senior Girls fell to Regents 2-0 in a close game, and the Under 15 boys dropped their game versus St. Andrew’s 6-0.

Week #2 games begin next Monday, with the Under 13’s Boys taking on Charter International School, 3:00pm at Piyarom. On Tuesday, the Under 9s and Under 11s also go up against Charter, 1:00pm at Piyarom, while the Senior Girls play at 3:00pm at St. Andrew’s and Senior Boys play Kesinee at 3:00pm at Piyarom. The Under 15 Boys game versus Bangkok Prep has been rescheduled to Monday, February 1, due to the overnight camp.

Seahawks score another clean sweep with wins over Ascot.

On Nut – Three Wells teams saw action Monday afternoon with all three teams earning victories in their respective age groups, all against teams from Ascot International School.

Playing at home were the Girls Under 13 team, whose toughest challenge was perhaps getting motivated to play on a lazy Monday afternoon. With just 5 points in the first quarter – all by 8th grade guard Kanny Smith – the Lady Seahawks seemed lethargic at best.

However, the visiting team never really posed a challenge, with Wells leading 15-2 at the half and 25-6 after 3 quarters. Power forward Ramita Sachasiri, grade 8, went on a shooting spree, accounting for 16 of the last 21 points for Wells. AIS was able to double their score in the final quarter, but it was far too little, and much too late, as the Lady Seahawks came up with another dominating win, 31-12.

In Minburi, the Boys Under 13 team took part in the most exciting game of the day as both teams were evenly matched. However, with just five players available to play, performances in all positions were critical in order to keep up with their larger opponents.

In the first half, it was all about defense as neither team could get any clear looks at the basket. At the break, Wells held a slim lead, 6-4, with 7th grade forward Hyeong Su “Ray” Lee scoring all of the Seahawk first-half points. Ray ended the game with 12 points.

Fellow forward Hyun Woo “Andy” Shin and center Angelo Borges, both grade 6, joined in the scoring during the 3rd period to bring the score to 14-10. A series of easy lay-ins allowed Wells to stretch the lead to 10 points late in the 4th period. The game was already well out of reach as the host team was able to put in two quick baskets during the final 30 seconds of play, bringing the final score to 20-14.

The final game of the day saw the Boys Under 15 team demonstrate why they are the premier TISAC title contenders for the 2009 season. With frequent mass substitutions, the Seahawks had far too many weapons for the host team to even begin to defend against. In fact, even with sub-par shooting performances, the “elite guard corps” still dominated. By quarters, Wells outscored AIS 11-0, 6-2, 8-2, and10-4.

Scoring for the Seahawks was well distributed. However, 8th grade guard Yueh “Kevin” Ting Han benefited from frequent steals and outlet passes resulting in his team-leading 10 points for the game. Center Chayutt “Van” Chayuti (grade 8), who was finally able to stay out of foul trouble, put in 6 points, while fellow center Jung Mo “Jack” Lee  (grade 9) laid in 4.

A busy week lies ahead for the Seahawks as the Under 11 team and Senior Girls take on Keerapat International School on Tuesday, while the Senior Boys and Senior Girls take on BISAC member Traill International School in a non-league game on Thursday.
